Job description

The International Centre for Advanced Materials (ICAM) is a partnership between bp and selected globally leading universities to enable the effective application of advanced materials for the transition to net zero. With its Hub and a research spoke at The University of Manchester, the Institute has spokes at three further Partner organisations: the Universities of Cambridge, Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Imperial College London.

We are seeking a Digital Communications Manager to develop and implement a comprehensive Digital Communications strategy for ICAM, ensuring this is aligned to the Institute’s wider vision and mission via its agreed values, see https://www.icam-online.org/about/. The role will manage and oversee the strategic use of all ICAM digital channels and assets and have complete accountability for ICAM’s website, including delivering an immediate project to refresh this.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-starter, with significant experience in fast-paced marketing and communications environment, who has experience of the whole marketing spectrum and able to hit the ground running. We are looking for someone with the confidence and capabilities to engage senior stakeholders; with the energy and dynamism to develop and implement campaigns that support ICAM's strategic goals; and the ambition to make this role their own. In return we can offer you the support and flexibility to realise the ambition you have, while enabling you to benefit from the collegiate networks and wide ranging benefits that come from working at The University of Manchester.

Ideally the applicant will hold a degree and/or professional qualification in a communications field, or haverelevant professional experience of communications, marketing and/or public relations related to scientific research. It would be advantageous for the applicant to have a keen interest in low carbon energy and advanced materials.

We are entirely flexible with relation to offering this role as Part-time / Full-time / non-standard working hours as necessary with a minimum requirement of 2.5 days per week (to enable a job share). The ICAM also operates a hybrid working pattern with an ambition of two days in the office and three working at home most weeks, though again this can be flexed and discussed further at interview as necessary to accommodate an individual’s personal circumstances.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.

Our University is positive about flexible working – you can find out more here

Hybrid working arrangements may be considered.
