Job summary

The Investment Directorate delivers economic growth to the nations and regions of the UK by attracting and retaining inward investment. We provide expert advice and support to investors, identify and promote strategically important investment opportunities, enhance the competitiveness of the UK business environment, lead on the department’s investment strategy and build strong investment capability across the department.

This role is part of the Investment Learning Team. We work with external partners and colleagues across the directorate to design and manage a broad learning and development (L&D) programme for the department’s investment staff in the UK and around the world.

You’ll be joining an engaged, welcoming and motivated team. We have a strong focus on creating a positive working environment and actively promote L&D within the team.

Your role

Over the next year, we will be revising our core investment L&D programme, the Investment Academy, so that it better supports the achievement of the department’s long-term goals.

You will be responsible for designing and developing our Digital Learning offer. You’ll be able to use your creativity and knowledge of digital tools to come up with Digital Learning that is engaging, realistic and helps to build practical skills.

You will take an innovative approach to learning design. You will experiment with and advocate for new techniques and tools to advance our Digital Learning offer.

Job description

  • Work with the Investment Learning team to design and implement a coherent Digital Learning offer that builds capability and confidence, meets departmental needs and drives enhanced organisational performance.
  • Be recognised as an expert partner, able to offer strategic advice, guidance and support to the business in relation to Digital Learning.
  • Be able to work independently and manage the Digital Learning development process.
  • Regularly create microlearning, acquiring content from subject matter experts (SME) and turning it into engaging activities that develop the department’s knowledge or skills in key areas.
  • Build in methods of collecting learner feedback to inform continuous improvement.
  • Manage the internal procurement process for obtaining digital tools, including researching tools, writing business cases and raising purchase orders.
  • Manage supplier relationships and subscription renewals.
  • Input into strategic decisions regarding the team’s overall investment L&D offer.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Strong written, verbal, visual, and presentation skills .
  • Interpersonal skills – collaborative team member.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • A good knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications, especially PowerPoint.
  • Experience designing and developing creative and interactive elearning using tools such as Articulate Rise and Storyline.

Desirable Criteria

  • Proficiency in working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and various learning technology platforms.
  • Proficient in creating and editing video content.
  • Experience of HTML and coding, using languages such as Javascript.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG).
