The approach is being piloted in East Ham and Plaistow from March 2024, and the team would be embedded within our newly-established Family Hub that opened in April 2023. The team will provide support for families presenting needs relating to the following:
- Persistent absence
- Missing from home.
- Substance misuses
- Behavioural challenges
- Poor mental health and mental wellbeing including bullying
Apply now to be part of a life changing initiative for children and young people in Newham.
ABOUT THE JOB
We are currently looking for two Disruption Support Officers to join our Youth Justice Service (YJS) on a fixed term basis until April 2025.
The Disruption Support Officers will play a key role in contributing to the provision of effective multi-agency Youth Justice provision, and working towards positive outcomes for children and young people by preventing offending following a ‘risk led’ Youth Justice service framework.
The duties of this role will be to fulfil a full range of case management responsibilities associated with work with low to high risk young people, including undertaking assessments, planning, interventions and supervision (APIS) with young people. We’re aiming to prevent offending, and improve outcomes for young people who are in the Youth Justice system and those around them (family, victims). Additionally, this role will include participating in the delivery of a wide range of YJS programmes on an individual and group work basis; and officers will be attending court, prison and police custody where necessary to fulfil case management responsibilities.
With the support of the YJS Group Manager, Team Manager and Youth Justice colleagues, the Disruption Support Officers will provide direct services to young people subject to voluntary interventions, pre-court disposal and Court Orders (e.g. Victim Services, Gang Prevention, Reparation).
Reporting to a Youth Justice Team Manager, the Disruption Support Officer will work alongside a team including Youth Justice colleagues and Youth Workers, working to prevent and reduce the negative impacts of youth offending on our children, young people, and their families.
ABOUT YOU
You are a passionate advocate for diverting our children and young people from the Youth Justice system, with experience working with young people at risk of offending and reoffending, understanding the risk factors associated with youth crime, and delivering effective and age-appropriate interventions.
We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can engage and build a rapport with young people and their families, who is confident acting with discretion and sensitivity with confidential information, and who wants to make a positive difference to young people’s lives.
You have experience working in a multi-agency, public sector or voluntary sector setting, carrying out case management and report writing on young people’s assessed needs, and experience of appropriate assessment, intervention planning, intervention delivery and effective case management recording.
You have knowledge and understanding of integrated working with services involved with Youth Justice, and confidence planning and engaging young people in group work programmes that address offending behaviour. You are a quick thinker and problem solver who can analyse information and use this to inform assessments and decisions regarding criminal justice proceedings and finding solutions for young people at risk of offending and re-offending.
