Job description
As the Electrical Contracts Manager, you will be experienced with the project end-to-end cycle,
essentially, estimation to final account.
You will be capable of managing a reasonable amount of multiple projects, ensuring they are
delivered in line with the clients requirements to the company’s high standards.
You may also be required to manage Contracts Engineers as part of a team, including supporting
project staff as direct reports.
Reporting directly to the Business Director, this is a senior position within our business and who will
be responsible for successful project delivery from pre-contract to end of defects inclusive of all
commercial project activities.
Typical project values usually range between £10k and £1m plus.
The following skills, experience and responsibilities are essential to the role:
Responsibilities/ Skills & Experience
Experience - HV and LV Power Distribution contract / project management experience
Estimating – The ability to read drawings & specifications and extract all information to allow
accurate costing including preparation and submission of estimates
Health & Safety – Carry out daily briefs, toolbox talks, preparing and issuing RAMS, monitoring H&S
plan working in full compliance with ISO 45001.
Procurement – Preparing and issuing Technical Submissions in advance of major orders, monitoring
of stock materials, liaise with site supervisor with timely procurement of materials, overseeing
deliveries and appropriate hire and return of plant and equipment when applicable.
Subcontractors – Procurement of and liaison with subcontractors & specialists, coordination of
works, troubleshooting, programme and performance monitoring and commercial control .
Programme – Monitoring progress of the works against programme & reporting on progress to Main
Contractor / Client / Business Director
Quality – Ensuring that the highest standards are achieved and maintained, implementation and
continued motoring of the company systems with an emphasis on minimising defects and post
contract return visits.
Meetings – Attend all required company / department meetings, prepare, and provide all necessary
input for project /client progress meetings
Verification / Testing – Responsibility for arranging and scheduling and the monitoring of all
required commissioning / testing of equipment & systems within the contracts and ensuring that full
records are obtained and retained for O&M competition.
In conjunction with verification and testing requirements you will have a thorough working
knowledge of BS 7671 18th Edition including testing and inspection with a view to fulfilling the role of
Qualifying Supervisor with the ECA/NICEIC.
O&M – Preparation of all required information for the timely production of required manuals
including the timely mark-up and production of ‘as installed drawings’, building logbooks, specialist
information & full operational guides.
Commercial – Taking ownership / control of the project finance, ensuring betterment can be
achieved wherever possible but never to the detriment of the project quality. Accurately forecast
labour, material and sub-contract spend from commencement to completion of defects.
Assist commercial colleagues with project account management, being able to raise Sales Invoices
and / or Applications For Payment.
Communication – Strong communication skills are essential for the planning & delivery of projects,
issuing reports or direct reporting to the Business Director as and when required, giving solid,
relevant information, ensuring that strong communication is maintained with all members of the
delivery team.
Building & maintaining good relationships with the project site team inclusive of client/end user
through to maintenance team.
Conflict / Issue resolution
Professional & courteous management of all Site Personnel
Sharing lessons learned, flagging of recurring issues, monitoring performance of suppliers,
specialists, sub-contractors & company personnel.
Liaising with the design team, consultants, clients and providing all the relevant information and
answers.
Overseeing – All aspects of H&S, procurement, and delivery
Must be computer literate and experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point & Project.
