About The Role
Morrison Energy Services continues to expand our workbook, including being a partner in delivering the Great Grid Upgrade, to deliver projects to the highest standard. 
We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent Ecologist to work as anEnvironmental Advisor (Ecology) within our Overhead Line and Substation business. This role will be site based, mostly within England and Wales but will also require occasional support to our Scottish project teams so a driving licence, willingness to traveland overnight stays are essential requirements.
Our Environmental Advisorsare a key part of our SHEQ Team, responsible for:
  • Day-to-day environmental management of high-profile projects, working directly with site teams and customer representatives.
  • Having excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor the explanation of complex technical information to different site teams and third parties.
  • Being key points of contact for liaison with customers, regulatory bodies, stakeholders, community groups and other important individuals and stakeholders.
  • Providing specialist support in ecological, environmental and sustainability matters across the business, including addressing wider environmental risks and providing advice, training, controls and mitigation for site based projects.
  • Contributing towards the design and implementation of new build projects to boost biodiversity and help MES progress with Biodiversity Net Gain requirements. 
  • Assisting in developing costs and ensure programmes and working methodologies are achievable and suitable to the work package.
The nature of our business is changing and, as well as providing a key role in maintaining essential services we are moving towards construction of new nationally significant infrastructure to deliver the Governments’ carbon commitments.
Our EnvironmentalAdvisors are expected to have an active interest in environmental and sustainability issues and a wide breadth of knowledge on subjects such as waste management, data analysis, sustainability issues, cultural heritage, consents, pollution, water management. Due to the vast amount of subject matter that you may experience within the role, on the job training and mentoring is provided to improve any gaps in knowledge. Working alongside the Environment and Sustainability Manager, our Environmental Advisors(Ecology) directly influence the way the company is run through the development, maintenance and implementation of environmental management procedures and processes to ensure the business is legally compliant and delivers continual improvement, good practices and dissemination of such to others. 
Assisting the Environment and Sustainability Manager to deliver sustainability targets and commitments through our Sustainability Strategy, the role offers the chance to implement meaningful changes to our business unit, sector and group not only to meet our carbon and waste targets, but on wider topics such as upskilling of our workforce and enabling improvements to the communities we work in.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
Essential:
  • Knowledge of ecological survey methods, assessment techniques, mitigation and control measures
  • Personal interest in environment / sustainability issues
  • Excellent verbal and demonstrable written communication skills
  • Ability to build rapport and influence others to make decisions
  • Able to effectively converse and deliver information to the level of the audience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Wide breadth of knowledge
  • Ability to problem solve to make educated and pragmatic decisions
  • Time management skills - able to work to deadlines and prioritise workload
  • Demonstrable research and analytical skills
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Valid driving licence within the UK and willingness to travel.
Desirable:
  • Degree in an environmental subject or associated subject - this knowledge helps to have the ability to think on your feet and make educated and pragmatic decisions in sometimes difficult situations.
  • Membership of environmental institution
  • Experience of consents, assents, licences and permits
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and auditing
  • Understanding of key sustainability issues
  • Working in an environmental capacity in a construction environment
  • Experience of working to Town and Country Planning Act and / or Development Consent Orders would be beneficial.
Additional Information
  • This role will be predominantly site based, travel across the UK will be expected with overnight stays, as well as attending the office located in Annesley, Nottinghamshire.
