Job description

Why Work for us: Employee benefits (southampton.gov.uk)

Are you a qualified and experienced Environmental Health practitioner looking to join Southampton City Council?
We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our team and focus on advising and regulating businesses operating within the city. You will need practical experience of working with residents and businesses to ensure they comply with food hygiene, health and safety and environmental protection legislation, so you should be confident taking enforcement action when necessary.

Southampton has almost 2,000 food businesses and a key part of your workload will be carrying out food hygiene inspections, so you will need to satisfy the qualification requirements set out in the Food Law Code and be familiar with the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
You will also investigate complaints and investigate workplace accidents, so you will need a working knowledge of environmental protection and health & safety legislation.
Southampton is a unitary authority so you will have the opportunity to work closely with our licensing and trading standards teams.

As this role will include inspecting premises to ensure compliance with food hygiene legislation, you must be able to meet the qualification and competency requirements set out in the Food Standards Agency's Food Law Code (Section 3.4.1)
If you feel you have the qualifications, skills and experience for this role, we would like to hear from you.
