Job description

Environmental Health Officer x 2 – full time and part time roles available - EH0243

East Hampshire District Council are looking for qualified, ambitious and innovative EHO’s, to join our busy Pollution Team.  We are pleased to be able to offer two opportunities - one part time permanent position for 22.2 hours per week and a full time maternity cover contract.

You will ideally have proven experience in the investigation of all types of nuisance complaints, responding to and providing advice for planning applications and licensing consultations, air quality issues and a variety of public health functions including drainage and public welfare burials.

Previous experience in a regulatory or public health environment is essential.

You must be self-motivated with excellent organisational skills and an ability to prioritise your work. You will also have strong communication and interpersonal skills to be able to deal with a wide range of customers in different and sometimes challenging situations, as well as being a great team player.

You will need a full UK driving licence and access to a car while at work.  For full details of the role, including a role profile, please visit https://www.easthants.gov.uk/jobs-with-us

The position will comprise a hybrid style of working, as a mix of both home and office-based working, to suit the work / life balance of the successful applicant. The Council is currently in the process of moving to new bespoke offices closer to Petersfield town center and the railway station which will offer us greater use of technology and better commute paths for our staff.

Many of our staff also work flexibly in different ways e.g. part-time, compressed hours and everything in between, please talk to us about the flexibility you may need to do this role.

You can find out more about the council, our values and the full range of benefits and support we offer our staff at our website: https://www.easthants.gov.uk/jobs-council

To be successful at shortlisting you will need to very clearly state how you meet the essential criteria listed in the role profile. Please also indicate if you are interested in the permanent position or the maternity contract role.

For an informal discussion, please contact, Gemma Richard, Pollution Team Leader on 01730 234322 or Charlotte Adcock Pollution Team Leader on 01730 234402 or Catherine Rayner, Environmental Health Manager on 01730 234306.

The closing date for receipt of applications is midnight 13 March 2024

Interviews are likely to be held on Thursday 21 March 2024

In return for your valued contribution, we can offer you a competitive benefits package which includes hybrid working options, training and development opportunities, generous annual leave and flexi time, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and more.

East Hampshire District Council are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences – we are proud of being a Disability Confident Committed employer and appoint on merit.
