Various roles available, full-time and part-time, permanent, required as soon as possible
Ipswich School has been listed as one of the top 130 schools in the country and is one of the foremost independent schools in East Anglia. We were established prior to 1399, moving to our present site in 1852. The school is co-educational with pupils aged between 3 months and 18 years.
The School benefits from a dedicated team of Estates staff who work to maintain and continually improve the School’s buildings and grounds. We are looking to recruit to various positions within our Estates team.
The nature of your role with us will be determined by your particular skills, knowledge and experience. There will be opportunities to progress your career with us through both ‘on the job training’ and certificated external training schemes.
We have roles available for those with some experience, or those with limited (or perhaps no) experience in Estates work, who wish to start or progress their careers with us. We also welcome applications from those with experience of working at a higher level, or those with specialist trade skills. The remuneration package, and working hours offered will reflect your duties and your level of skills and experience.
The working hours for an Estates Operative working in a more general Estates role are as follows:
40 hours a week, working on a rota consisting of 5 x 8-hour shifts covering the School’s main opening hours, which are from 7am to 7pm Mondays to Fridays, and at least one Saturday a month working from 8am to 4pm (with a day off in lieu during the week given when working on a Saturday).
For an Estates Operative offering higher level trade skills in maintenance disciplines such as plumbing, carpentry/woodwork, painting and decorating, locksmithing, glazing, general building/maintenance, we will be happy to consider both full-time and part time working patterns, including potentially a 4-day week (working Fridays – Mondays) or working from 4pm to 10pm on Mondays to Fridays. These hours are when the school site is generally closed to pupils and staff and this allows greater access and flexibility for maintenance work.
Benefits
Your starting salary will be between £23,800 and £33,655 per annum, (for a 40 hour week), and will depend on your skills and experience (the salary will be pro rata for part-time).
You will be entitled to 20 working days’ paid holiday per year, plus public holidays (pro rata for part-time workers). One extra day’s holiday may be taken for each completed 2 years’ of service, up to a maximum of 5 extra days.
You will be entitled to join a defined contribution pension scheme (with 10% employer contributions), and you will benefit from 3x salary death in service cover.
After 3+ years’ service with the School you will be entitled to generous fee remission.
Free lunch in the dining hall during term time, and free use of the School’s swimming pool and gym.
