Finance Officer

Scope of job description
You will prepare and control accounting and financial operations in collaboration with the Director of Operation by assisting in establishing budgets, forecasts future cash flows, provides periodic financial reporting, and undertakes a range of financial tasks and activities, including preparing internal financial reports, monthly performance and activity reports, monthly expenses and petty cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable (funding transactions), and end-of-month general ledger transactions.

Overview
- Accurate data input and analysis using in-house accounting software.
- Processing transactions including purchase, sales, nominal ledger, payroll journals, and bank statement posting.
- Monitoring and processing petty cash and general expenses.
- Leading in the preparation of annual accounts.
- Leading in preparing control accounts for all balance sheet prime accounts
- Co-ordinating cash management within the organisation
- Providing administrative support to the Director of Operations and other SMT.
- Assisting with payroll processing, pensions, grant donations, and other funding of voluntary income.
- Ensuring all ledger invoices are approved and nominal ledger coded.
- Assisting with end-of-month processes including funding ledger accounts, bank reconciliations, payroll, and salary.
- Supporting the Director of Operations in setting and monitoring budgets.
- Training budget holders and other staff in using financial information.
- Assisting with filing reports and notices with Companies House and the Charity Commission.
- Attend meetings and collaborate with colleagues.
- Attend relevant training.
- Comply with Health & Safety Guidelines.
- Promote charity work and participate in fundraising.
- Ensure internal quality assurance standards.
- Internally the post holder will work closely with the Senior Management Team
- Externally the post holder may have to manage relationships with a range of stakeholders including suppliers, customers, grant awarding bodies, grant recipients, donors and statutory agencies.
- Proven ability to support a significant finance function.
- Experience of working with CRM plus accountancy software
- Experience of Petty Cash management
- Excellent computer skills including using main Microsoft 365 package.
- Some knowledge of FRS 102 Charities' SORP
- Experience of supporting the preparation of annual accounts and organisations
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Sound understanding of the differing requirements of management accounts and statutory accounts.
- High organised and methodical
- Ability to travel on occasion to different locations.
- Understanding of and adherence to organisational Code of Conduct, supporting positive change across the charity
- An appropriate financial qualification or currently studying at immediate level for a financial/management qualification.
- Experience of financial administration in the charity sector
- Excellent working knowledge of accounting software and or an enthusiasm to learn.
- Some experience of payroll administration
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach and support non-financial staff in developing their financial skills.
