My client is a well-established medium-sized law firm with around 100 fee earners offering legal advice to corporate and institutional clients as well as to private individuals. Their specialist practice areas are Commercial and Residential Property, Private Client, Corporate and Litigation.
They are now looking to recruit a Finance Systems Administrator. This role will ensure the smooth running of the Firm’s Finance Systems, provide data analysis and reporting through the advance use of SQL and MS Excel and to assist with the implementation of a new Practice Management System (PMS).
Responsibilities
- To be an expert on how the firm’s current Finance Systems operate (Norwel PMS, Quantum BI and Intapp Time), proactively advising both finance and non-finance staff.
- Liaise with the firm’s IT department and software suppliers to ensure that any issues are promptly identified and resolved.
- Write and run SQL reports to extract and analyse data to satisfy regular and ad-hoc information requests.
- Deliver system training to finance and non-finance staff on activities such as billing and reporting.
- Ensure sufficient system controls exist to comply with SRA, AML and HMRC legislation.
- Work with the Finance Systems Manager to assist with the implementation of a new PMS, including acceptance testing, data reconciliations, system settings, report creation and process documentation.
- Provide cover for other members of the team as and when required.
- Any other duties defined by management from time to time.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Finance Systems is essential.
- Advanced MS Excel is essential - e.g. ability to design reports in Excel using advanced formulas (Index Match, Pivot tables, SUMIFS etc.), ability to analyse large volumes of data and ability to perform reconciliations.
- SQL skills are essential - e.g. ability to write SQL queries, not at developer level, but confident enough to extract data and to design basic reports.
- Other generalist IT skills are important -e.g. experience with databases, Power BI dashboards and SharePoint.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and processes is essential - e.g., from having a working knowledge of purchase/sales ledger to understanding management reporting.
- Legal sector experience is not essential but very desirable.
- Relevant systems experience: Elite, Aderant, Norwel, InTapp Time, Quantum - desirable.
