Job description

We have a unique opportunity within our AML Operations Team for a talented and ambitious individual to join our mission to protect the Society against Economic Crime team. As a High Risk Relationship Consultant, you will be responsible for overseeing and approving high risk customer relationships, escalating higher risk relationships to senior stakeholders across the three lines of defence in line with society approval model and present findings at review forum.

You will also need to undertake thorough investigations into external and customer related Financial Crime across the Nationwide group, incl. third party administrators.

This role is in a department with an outstanding reputation, captivating subject matter and industry leading results that will see you work alongside advanced detection systems, reacting to ever changing methods of Financial Crime, whilst striving to deliver exceptional member experience. The Economic Crime department are responsible for protecting Nationwide and its members from all types of Financial Crime, including; money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions and bribery and corruption.

You will be expected to work from one of our admin centres in either:- Dunfermline, Threadneedle Street - London, Sheffield, Swindon, Northampton, Bournemouth or Wakefield twice per week.

What you’ll be doing

  • Undertake investigations of higher risks relationships and Financial Crime suspicion, documenting findings to make accurate recommendations and decisions.
  • Oversee and approve high risk customer relationships in line with societies delegated approval matrix.
  • Present to senior stakeholders at the appropriate review forum.
  • Maintain subject matter expert knowledge of Financial Crime to appropriately lead approval of customer risks assessment outcomes.
  • Conduct evidentiary gathering with stakeholders and customers to support relationship classification.
  • Provide input on how we adapt our processes to align to the changing landscape of Financial Crime regulations and legislation.
  • Consult with the operational teams to identify process inefficiency and performance management issues.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve and support operational business readiness and change activities to ensure department is set up for success, managing customer risk in line with internal policies and regulation.
  • Manage both internal and external audit reviews and discussions with regulators and other oversight functions will be a key part of the role.

About you

As a minimum we require:

  • Proven strong recent AML experience (in Enhanced Due Diligence)
  • Existing ICA qualification (or equivalent) or to be completed within first 12 months in role
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders of all levels
  • Excellent investigation experience, attention to detail and decision-making skills with the ability to work in a pressurised environment
  • Strong record keeping and writing ability as well as good experience producing case reports to present findings and decisions.
  • Ability to share best practice with colleagues.
  • Ability to influence at Senior level and experience in stakeholder management ensuring effective working relationship
