Functional Skills Delivery Manager

Mantra has supported the skills needs of the logistics sector for over 54 years and is an Ofsted rated grade 2 independent training provider. The Manchester site is well established as the largest specialist logistics training facility in the UK. Our organisation provides training for people at all levels from supporting individuals to gain work to developing senior managers. We also strive to improve learners’ life prosects by offering programmes such as mental health and wellbeing, digital skills, English and Maths through our two key brands of The Job Gym and The National Logistics Academy and utilising several different types of government funding that we have successfully secured, we help thousands of learners each year to gain new skills. We work with some of the biggest brands in the country, including Aldi, Wincanton and AO, delivering approximately 400 Apprenticeships, over 2500 Large Goods Vehicle licences and 1,100 Forklift Truck licences each year. This role is a fulltime role based in Middleton. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday). Based in our 8’000 sqft auto and 6’000 sqft HGV and EV workshops.
Job Purpose
- To provide effective leadership and management of the Functional Skills team to continually enhance the quality of learning and achievement.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all Functional Skills operations to support sustained quality and growth of the provision.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop and lead on Functional Skills operations that cover all areas of curriculum delivery and operational management. This includes supporting with the planning of CPD, meeting structures, communications protocol, curriculum development and structure, delivery models and value-added opportunities to enhance the curriculum and learning experience.
- Develop comprehensive schemes of work, providing a rich learning experience for learners.
- Ensure all learners, including those with barriers to learning receive high quality learning.
- Ensure team targets and KPIs are developed and managed effectively.
- Ensure the Functional Skill delivery team provide high quality training to achieve success rates in line with business requirements.
- Drive improvement of standards through pro-active quality improvement that is data driven; in line with the annual Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) and maintain the Quality Improvement Plans (QIP).
- Ensure best practice is followed in line with the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and that all stakeholders are aware of developments in the EIF.
- Plan, coordinate and implement teaching, learning and assessment observations and quality processes across the department.
- Make effective use of data to monitor and evaluate the achievement and attainment of learners in the area.
- Maintain a portfolio of exemplar work, moderated against grade descriptors
Essential Qualifications
- Level 5 Teaching Qualification
- Subject specific competency
Essential Experience
- Understanding of the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF)
- Self-assessment and quality improvement implementation
- Management of teams within the education sector
- Face to face and virtual course management and/or delivery
Essential Skills
- Strong spoken and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate at all levels
- Good people management skills
- Digitally literate to support virtual course delivery
