Job description

The Meath’s beautiful Grade II listed manor house, together with our high-needs facility, Bradbury House, and the Meath Skills and Enterprise Centre, are all set in landscaped grounds. A few minutes’ walk from the centre of Godalming and a stone’s throw from Godalming railway station. We are in a superb location, affording easy access to local amenities, whilst also offering peace and tranquility as required.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Manager to affect change and deliver sustainable improvements as part of our pathway to Outstanding. Working with our Senior Management Team you will support with strategic decision making and will lead your team to raise standards and develop an efficient, positive work culture across The Meath.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

Manage the HR team ensuring they have the skills resources and knowledge to carry out their roles effectively
Take a proactive role as a member of the SMT, supporting the strategic and operational needs of The Meath to ensure:

  • Efficiency and cost effectiveness in the HR functions
  • HR functions are supporting The Meath in achieving an Outstanding rating with CQC
  • Employing and developing the highest standard of staff
  • Legal compliance
  • Board reports are provided as required.
  • All employment matters are dealt with proactively and effectively
  • Collaboration on any matters such as GDPR and Health and Safety.
  • Collaboration with the external payroll provider and finance team of Meath to ensure salaries are accurate and paid in a timely manner

All policies, practices and processes:

  • remain up to date
  • are compliant with all relevant legislation
  • are aligned to the needs of the charity
  • provide a framework to ensure fairness and equity in the way employees are treated

Provide comprehensive advice and guidance across the services and to the SMT in respect of HR policies, practices and processes, relating to all aspects of employment ensuring that they are complied with at all times

Ensure grievance and disciplinary matters are dealt with in alignment with statutory and Meath procedures.

Oversee recruitment to ensure:

  • It is aligned to the Meath’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • It supports a proactive approach to talent management, career development and succession planning in the context of the recruitment crisis
  • It is compliant with policy and statutory requirements
  • It is cost effective and efficient
  • It is coordinated and well communicated with the service heads

Oversee performance management and evaluate current appraisal processes across the services that:

  • Ensures statutory compliance
  • Enables best practice and embeds our new values
  • Provides support implementing the annual Employee Engagement Survey, collate and analyse data and make recommendations and design action plans which:
  • Provide an engaging induction program to ensure new starters are consistently effectively integrated into their role, their team and the charity
  • Comply with all GDPR confidentiality and data security requirements and report any potential issues or breaches to the CEO
  • Any other reasonable task as required by the Charity


What we are looking for:

  • CIPD level 3 or above HR qualification
  • Experience of operating at senior HR level with senior management
  • Experience of managing an HR team
  • Knowledge and experience of HR best practice and Employment Legislation
  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with employee relations cases
  • General understanding of payroll and employee benefits
  • General understanding of managing an HR Information System
  • Excellent communicator, with an ability to build strong relationships
  • Very strong, written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with an ability to work to deadlines, remain calm under pressure and prioritise work in accordance with the organisational needs
  • A proactive approach to investigating and solving problems
  • Personal integrity
  • Excellent IT skills in PowerPoint, Word and Excel
