We are looking for a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team in Somerton, Somerset.
This position provides you with the opportunity to develop nursing clinics and use your initiative to promote new ideas. You will be supported by a passionate team of vets and nursing staff including, SVN and Patient Care Assistants as well as a dedicated reception team.
This is a full-time permanent position, covering 40 hours per week over five days. We do have the option for a four-day week if preferred. You will also be part of a weekend rota, covering 1:3 Saturday mornings, with time in lieu given the following week.
Somerton is one of our newest clinics but is a well established and community focussed clinic in Somerset. Close to Langport, Yeovil and Taunton you’re based in beautiful Somerset countryside with good road, rail and air links to the rest of the UK.
The team have served the community for many years and have a strong client base. The clinic is a beautiful building in the centre of Somerton with period features and characted in every room! The clinic is well equipped with digital xray, ultrasound, inhouse laboratory machines, multiparameter anaesthetic monitor and many nursing aids.

Role Accountabilities

In this role you will:
- Provide clinical leadership to the nursing team.
- Consistently deliver exceptional care to your clients.
- Support with surgeries and procedures, completing all pre and post procedure activity.
- Lead, manage and promote nurse led appointments and Schedule 3 surgeries.
- Deliver patient monitoring and care.
- Manage admissions and discharges as directed by the Veterinary team.
- Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
- Dispense and check medication.
- Deliver professional excellence, implementing and complying with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.
- Inspire your team, sharing new or evolving practice standards and changes to processes.
- Engage, coach and develop your team.
- Pro-actively support and share clinical best practice across practices and the wider Medivet community.
Your Skills and Experience
- RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse.
- Experience of delivering exceptional patient and client care.
- Able to confidently lead a clinical team.
- Experience of implementing a progressive clinical culture through nurse clinics and nurse consultations.
- Experienced in using coaching and influencing skills to get the best out of every colleague.
