Sale Sharks Foundation is looking to recruit a Health & Wellbeing Development Officer who will support delivery of a range of Health & Wellbeing programmes across the Community Inclusion team. Projects will engage with a wide range of communities, across all ages and abilities. As part of the Community Inclusion team for Sale Sharks Foundation, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing projects. This will include ‘Sharks Forces’ a project designed to support ex-service and serving personnel, ‘Head Start’ our mental wellbeing and physical activity project, whilst also supporting and delivering our school-based health and wellbeing programmes such as ‘Try2Connect’ & ‘Cargill Cares’.
The role will have a key emphasis on developing our veteran’s community offer ‘Shark Forces’. After recently securing new funding, we are in the early stages of developing a new veterans employability programme ‘Reaching New Goals’ which will comprise targeted wellbeing activities focussed on working aged veterans facing challenges with mental wellbeing health problems. You will support by delivering workshops on skill development, building confidence, and reliance to progress into sustainable employment or volunteering opportunities. This new provision will be a key aspect of the role and you will lead on the development and delivery of the ‘Reaching New Goals’ project. This will include developing sustainable partnerships and driving participation growth across the Shark Forces programme.
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week (Pro rata)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Relationship Management:
- To help create and establish strong relationships with stakeholders to develop links across our health and wellbeing programme with a particular focus on building positive relations with veteran charities and referral pathways.
- To work with our partner organisations to support Sale Sharks Foundation achieve successful, high impact projects to achieve project outcomes and outputs.
Delivery:
- Take responsibility for the weekly delivery of all Shark Forces sessions and activities including veterans’ coffee mornings, well-being walks, physical activity sessions and additional monthly engagement trips/activities. Work with the wider inclusion team to support the delivery of a new veteran’s rugby programmes, which could include tag rugby, walking rugby or a wheelchair rugby session.
- Support the Health & Wellbeing Coordinator with the delivery of HeadStart, consisting of a low impact physical activity programme.
- Support the delivery of our positive Health & Wellbeing interventions at locations such as schools, colleges, grassroot rugby clubs and community hubs.
- To work across Sale Sharks Foundation school holiday activities, supporting were relevant on programmes within the Holiday Activation Fund delivery (HAF).
- Support wider foundation programmes such as the Education teams Alternative Provision offer through one-to-one mentoring support in primary and secondary schools.
- Lead the delivery and development of the new Shark Forces ‘Reaching New Goals’ programme, which will including developing new educational and employability content, delivering a weekly programme of employability and mentoring workshops.
- Liaise and develop new relationships with internal and external partner organisations to engage new audiences.
- Manage the referral pathway for the Shark Forces programme, making sure all data required is completed and Foundation policies and procedures are followed and adhered to.
- Lead on the relationship with volunteers who will specifically support the Shark Forces programme.
- To ensure the health and safety of all participants taking part in Sale Sharks Foundations activities. This includes completing risk assessments, developing procedures, gathering compliance documents from third party providers, and complying with all aspects of Sale Sharks Foundations procedures and safeguarding policies and practices.
- To input and feedback around Health & Wellbeing programmes to further develop the strategic direction of the programme and expanding the current offering.
- Delivering sessions in a plan-do-review model to strive to develop them to be current and specific to target audience’s needs.
Monitoring & Evaluating:
- Contribute to the preparation and delivery of monthly, annual reports and key performance indicator reports. This includes the use of regular registers, monitoring and evaluations tools and ensuring information is uploaded to the Upshot platform in a timely manner.
- Collate media and case studies to ensure awareness of the project and work of Sale Sharks Foundation.
- To work towards agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
General:
- Ensure all administration elements of the projects including keeping accurate records, data collection are updated.
- Undertake any other duties required in line with the responsibilities of the post.
- Work with the Health & Wellbeing Coordinator to identify funding opportunities.
- Promote the Sale Sharks Foundation and the Sale Sharks brand and values in a professional positive manner at all times.
- To be able to work flexible and unsociable hours where the role of the job requires.
- Continuously evaluates the success and standards of their work and that of others, through rigorous self and departmental reflection and analysis, this includes creating a CPD plan and working towards agreed PDR objectives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Qualifications:
- A mental health qualification (Desirable).
- Level 2 group exercise qualification or equivalent or willing to work towards one.
- Level 2 multi-sport or sports coaching qualification (Desirable).
- Show a commitment to professional development and their own learning.
Experience and Skills:
- Possess equivalent/transferable work experience.
- Previous experience of working in community development or education.
- Experience of delivering community, sport or physical activity sessions.
- Prior experience of delivering workshops and educational material to young people and adults.
- Prior experience of working with veterans or vulnerable adults (Desirable).
- Experience of developing educational/workshop content. Experience of developing projects/programmes and initiatives.
- Good knowledge of mental health and mental wellbeing.
- An understanding of safeguarding and risk.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
- Experience of collating monitoring and evaluation reports.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 packages.
- High attention to detail including good use of grammar and spelling.
