BDS are currently looking for an experienced Housing Options Officer around the Doncaster area.
Full time hours, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm
£17.26 - 21.34 per hour
The post holder will be responsible for preventing homelessness, relieving homelessness and investigating and assessing duties to customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness under its statutory duties.
You will offer professional advice and support on matters of home options and prevention of homelessness, and actively seek alternative accommodation or help in retaining existing accommodation.
You will need previous experience of front line interviewing within a demanding housing environment whilst applying the Housing Act 1996 Part VII, the Homelessness Act 2002, the Localism Act 2011 and related legislation.
You will need to have a proven track record in homelessness prevention through a pro-active and innovative approach to problem solving.
Be responsible for ensuring a high quality of service to customers with housing problems with an up-to-date knowledge on landlord and tenant law, debt advice, income maximisation alongside effective homeless prevention initiatives including the company Housing Allocations Scheme.
An ability to communicate clearly and effectively to customers, accommodation providers, partner organisations and other professionals whilst providing a high quality of service and customer care to all groups of the community is essential.
You will need to be able to accurately assess homeless applications made under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and issue clearly detailed and robust written s184 decisions in accordance with current legislation and case law.
The position is a full-time ongoing contract for at least 3 months that could be extended with a mix of home working and office base.
The hours will be a week working in the office and a week work working from home.
The position is due to start in the New Year.
