A fantastic, intellectually challenging and rewarding Board member role playing a vital part in the Criminal Justice System.
We are replacing one of our three Independent Non-Executive Board Members who is coming to the end of their term, a person who will also Chair our Audit and Risk Assurance Committee. We want a Non-Executive Board Member who can complement the skills and knowledge of the others, who combines independence of mind with the ability to work as part of a team and who is financially qualified with recent experience of Audit committees.
We are the independent statutory body established to investigate miscarriages of justice in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We are a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice with a budget for the current year of just over £7.5M. We have referred over 750 cases to the appellate courts and receive circa 1,400 cases a year. The majority of those applications are in relation to the most serious crimes such as murder, rape, terrorism, and drugs.
You will have an exceptional track record of success on boards in the public, private or voluntary sectors. This, coupled with an understanding of the economic and political environment in which the Commission operates, will enable you make a positive contribution to the future success of this important organisation.
This position attracts a non-pensionable fee of £300 per day with an expected time commitment of 15 to 20 days per year.
