Non-Executive Director
Mutual Energy owns and operates the electricity and gas transmission infrastructure between GB and NI and gas transmission infrastructure to Belfast and has expanded the gas network to the west of NI. Mutual Energy has been extremely successful in delivering its primary objective of reducing energy costs for NI energy consumers. The company is a very “lean” professional business with a small executive team supported by a first-class Board.
Mutual Energy now seeks to appoint a replacement for an outgoing board member. The new appointee will work with the Board to add value to the long-term strategic direction of the company from a consumer perspective, supporting the executive team and Board on critical operational and strategic issues. Of key importance to this role is the ability to help the company address challenging operational, regulatory and market conditions, contributing towards high level decision making and acting as a sounding board for executives. The successful candidate would also help ensure high standards of corporate governance.
There is an emphasis on quality as well as diversity of experience on the Board therefore successful candidates must also have the capability to contribute effectively to areas such as strategy, corporate governance, leadership, and external representation. The ideal candidate will be a highly respected and experienced leader preferably bringing experience from a Northern Ireland energy ‘demand side’ perspective. The role would suit an individual with a recent active interest in energy costs or infrastructure or wholesale energy markets or an individual who represents the interests of energy users from a strategic perspective.
This role is a key one in supporting our focus on consumers in general and on broader energy policy in Northern Ireland and so local knowledge and representation is important. But what matters most is a sharp intellect, the ability to learn, a down to earth approach and a pragmatic, hands on style that will fit with this small, collegiate but high profile and mission critical organisation.
This non-executive appointment will appeal to experienced individuals who are seeking to make a lasting impact on the wider Northern Ireland economy.
