Interim General Counsel - Sustainability Nfp

This business has already seen significant growth and success in the last year which shows no signs of slowing down. They are in the start up and scale up phase of their journey and the incoming General Counsel will require the ability or experience working within this type of environment which can be very fast paced. The ability to pivot to changing priorities and needs as the organization evolves and work in a rapidly evolving business is a must.

This is not a "quick fix" for the company, it is a long-term goal where the business envisages this individual to successfully embed legal into the business, build solid legal and commercial foundations and implement new processes and strategies that will protect the organization and propel them into continued future success. This is a high priority role for our client and you will be a very key part of the organizations future success through building the legal function and processes and supporting the busienss with high priority projects.

Reporting lines & team:

You will report into the COO - With good exposure to CEO and other senior members and also work closely with the compliance director. Currently the organization has 2 members of the legal team who are both interim hires.

The successful candidate:

• You will have held a Head of Legal or General Counsel position in another business or ideally held head of legal positions that have been broad in nature.
• Our client needs the post holder to have robust experience in commercial, corporate, governance, compliance, process implementation and new contract implementation as well as management and introduction of suitable external counsel/ panel law firms.
• Experience within a charity or not for profit setting is not essential, but the passion to join their mission in supporting the private sector to make positive and actionable changes for a greener future is absolutely crucial.
• Our client have 2 reputable law firms ready to take on more specialised charity/ legal matters. Managing and introducing new external counsel and advising and managing budgets is a big part of this role.
• Experience in setting up new processes from the start for an efficient legal function, training the wider business on legal matters that will affect the day to day running of the organization would be highly beneficial, along with the ability to work closely with board level members.
• The ability to work closely with the COO, CEO and other senior team members is a must and be able ot build strong international relationships is vital.
• Must have experience working in smaller businesses seeing significant growth or larger businesses where process implementation or restructures have taken place.

Working arrangements: Able to work remotely is ideal with occasional London visits. once a week at the start of the contract would be great.

Candidate availability: Our client is seeking a quick start but those with a 3 month notice will also be closely considered for this role.

Salary: Highly competitive for not for profit (competes very well with private sector).
