We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in proteomics to join the Oncology Translational Research team within GSK Oncology TA. The successful candidate will work as part of a team that evaluates patient-derived tissues through cutting-edge cellular, genomic and molecular techniques, and partners with AI/ML and analytics experts to integrate data from these multimodal approaches to generate clinical insights. The goal of this is to improve cancer patient risk stratification, identify clinical biomarkers and predict future targeted and/or immuno-therapy susceptibilities.

Key Responsibilities

As a scientist with deep proteomics expertise, you will:

  • Develop and implement state-of-the-art proteomic technologies to study cancer biology, including MS-based measurements of protein abundance and PTMs.
  • Integrate proteomic data from preclinical cancer models and tumor samples to gain insights into cancer biology and identify novel therapeutic targets
  • Demonstrate leadership and support the broader team by providing deep proteomics expertise to cross-functional activities, including keeping up to date with the latest advances in proteomics technology.
  • Conduct proteomic analysis from patient derived material, including exosomes and immunopeptidomics
  • Independently execute and deliver data of high quality and within defined timeframes.
  • Identify and develop solutions to methodological challenges in research protocols.
  • Solve technical issues and operate as part of a cross-functional project team.
  • Collaborate with KCL scientists within the GSK-KCL Translational Oncology Research Hub, an exclusive research collaboration between GSK and the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at KCL. This collaboration model established by the former Digital Biological Twin Unit will serve as a template for other external Cancer Centre partners such as the OCTC.

Why you?

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD, or equivalent experience, in Cancer Biology, Proteomics, or related field, with at least 5 years of experience in cancer proteogenomics.
  • Experience of independent design and delivery of MS-based measurements of protein abundance and PTMs, as well as genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic data analysis
  • A solid knowledge of cancer biology.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and clearly communicate complex proteomics analyses with team members from different backgrounds, as well as senior members of the unit.
  • Track record of delivering high quality, consistent results in a timely fashion with a positive can-do and result oriented attitude.
  • Evidence of effective troubleshooting and assay development.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Strong background in developing and applying cutting-edge proteomic technologies to study cancer biology.
  • Expertise in cancer biology, including the molecular mechanisms underlying tumourigenesis and cancer progression.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex scientific and business challenges.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
