A Vacancy at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. We have a vacancy for two Junior Clinical/Simulation Fellows to commence August 2024 for 12 months. The posts will be 50% simulation-based education and 50% clinical service provision (clinical attachment in Critical Care) and you will rotate between clinical and education duties. These unique posts provide rich opportunities to develop interests and expertise in simulation-based education whilst broadening your clinical experience. Critical Care: Clinical Fellows within the Department are considered equivalent to trainees although requirements may differ amongst individuals and we aim to provide tailored educational mentoring. We encourage fellows to undertake quality improvement work, audit and research projects and will provide time to do so. There are numerous Focused Intensive Care echo supervisors and we have mentored numerous fellows through the FICE process. You will be allotted an educational mentor who will tailor the education opportunities dependent upon your career goals. We provide good teaching that is renowned in the local Schools of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine Simulation: The post holder will be part of The Directorate of Education Research and Innovation (DERI), based within the Clinical Education Team. They will work closely with the Simulation and Clinical Assessment Lead to support the Clinical Education Team and the wider ELHT Simulation Faculty in their training capability and capacity to deliver SBE and our ambitious simulation strategy that supports the National and Local agenda and the Trust corporate objectives. The core aspect of the role will be to provide SBE programmes to all staff groups, working closely with content experts, course/ program leaders and clinical simulation faculty. Critical care is a large department of 50+ Consultants (18 Critical Care), 14 Associate Specialists/Specialty doctors and approximately 25 trainees ranging from new starter CT1 to advanced year ST7. We work across two sites: Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital. The Simulation Team is part of the Directorate of Education Research and Innovation and is dedicated to educating, training, and developing our current and future workforce to support the vision of providing safe, personal, and effective care. We have a reputation for high quality, innovative, education provided by our skilled and motivated. muti-disciplinary Team utilising the cutting edge of simulation technology. To support this vision, we work across the Education and Simulation Centres of the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Teaching Hospitals as well as providing support in clinical practice delivering in situ simulation. Critical care a busy 28 bed critical care unit that cares for 1800 patients per year. We take medical and surgical emergency patients and postoperative elective patients requiring a higher level of care. There is excellent opportunity to gain experience in caring for critically ill patients and the practical techniques pertinent to this. The on call is as on a 1:6 rota on ICU on a band 1A and follows the below model (subject to review). If successful you will be involved in several local and national research and audit projects and were one of the forerunners in enhanced recovery. The Simulation Fellow will play a key part in helping to train, support and retain staff to ensure we have a safe and effective workforce now and in the future, and to make a real difference to the quality of care in terms of patient safety and experience. You will support learners and the delivery of simulation across multi-professional and multi-specialty groups within the organisation not only in the classroom setting but across wards and departments to ensure they are safe, competent practitioners compliant with current legislation, national and local guidelines and that the Trust fulfils its legal obligations. The successful candidate will therefore require a passion for and experience of delivering simulation-based education, have recent acute clinical experience, and demonstrate excellent clinical skills and an understanding of best practice This is an innovative time with the emergence of new technology to enhance the simulated learning experience and requires someone who has a passion for education and the confidence, courage and resilience to facilitate change in order to support this dynamic educational service.
