As a Claims Handler (Costs), you’ll play a pivotal role in assessing and settling claims related to costs. Your responsibilities extend beyond paperwork; you’ll be at the forefront of negotiations, strategy formulation, and client communication. Here’s why this position is exciting and how you can make a meaningful impact:
Strategic Cost Management: You’ll set the stage by developing cost strategies, ensuring efficient negotiations, and managing costs up to £50K (with an expected First Award of £25K). Your ability to balance financial considerations with legal requirements will be crucial.
Document Drafting Expertise: Crafting clear and concise documents is your forte. From chronologies that unravel the case’s timeline to comprehensive cost strategy documents, you’ll be the architect of well-structured arguments.
Navigating Legal Terrain: Basic interlocutory applications, Part 18 requests, and consent orders will be part of your toolkit. Your familiarity with these legal processes will drive successful outcomes.
Evidence Evaluation: You’ll dive into files, meticulously reviewing evidence and preparing evidential assessments. Your keen eye for detail will uncover critical insights.
Client-Centric Approach: Providing comprehensive advice to clients is more than a task—it’s an opportunity to build trust. Your early telephone negotiations and consistent communication will strengthen relationships.
Collaboration and Supervision: Working closely with colleagues in the Costs team and across the organization, you’ll foster collaboration. When needed, you’ll seek supervision to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Settlement Mastery: Assessing part 36 offers and other settlement proposals, you’ll engage in negotiations with third parties. Your goal? Achieving favorable outcomes for our clients.
Reporting and Compliance: You’ll prepare outcome reports, ensuring transparency and accountability. Upholding the SRA Code of Conduct 2011, you’ll maintain the highest ethical standards.
