What Will Be Your Environment:

This role is based at the European headquarters in Hazelwood, Derbyshire. Being set in rural Derbyshire, the Lubrizol campus at Hazelwood combines state of the art Research, Development and Testing facilities with breath-taking country views that create a unique working environment not commonly associated to the chemical industry. In this role you will be part of the laboratory team in the Blend Test Services (BTS) department.

What You'll Do:

As a Laboratory Technician, you will provide reliable and agile laboratory services and solutions that are relevant now and in the future. This is done in such a way that builds trust and confidence for Lubrizol products with internal business partners and customers, so that our products exceed customer expectations. At the heart of this are core beliefs of safety, ethics, inclusion and diversity and an accountable culture. Day-to-day contributions will involve you conducting chemical and physical property testing and development projects in accordance with good working practices and within agreed time limits.

You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life.

What We're Looking For:

  • Organise and prioritise the necessary internal laboratory work to support internal business partner needs, and report data in line with procedure.
  • Addresses problems from internal business partners, processes or procedures.
  • Perform a wide range of procedures, trouble-shoot equipment or instruments, understand underlying operating principles, seeks to reduce variability and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Operate in line with health and safety practices within the laboratory.
  • Establish relationships outside of the group in order to complete work.
  • Focussed on and drives self-development with support of line manager.
  • Challenge the status quo to drive safety, operational and cyber security improvements.

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • Educated to at least ‘A’ level standard or equivalent in a scientific field or equivalent work experience in a scientific environment.
  • Competent in use of office and web-based computer programs, databases and awareness of laboratory information management systems.
  • Understands concepts of control charts, data analysis and use of statistical tools.
  • Experience of dealing with customer enquiries and providing them with relevant information.
  • Has the ability to perform tasks and communicate results according to defined project parameters.
  • Can handle multiple tasks simultaneously, is well organised and can prioritise effectively.
  • Demonstrates flexibility; is willing to work in any area of the department to ensure efficient operations
  • Can prepare and deliver presentations with confidence and develop towards representing Lubrizol at industry meetings.
  • Awareness and experience of Lean Six-Sigma would be an advantage.
  • Previous audit experience and working in a UKAS accredited (ISO17025) laboratory is also desirable.
