Job description

Learning Officer - Historical Site

The key working relationships will be with the Park's Heritage Ranger, also based at the centre, and the Heritage Learning Officer, based in Islington Museum. The post holder with work closely with other members of the Heritage Team, including project officers, and learning and engagement colleagues within Islington's children's and adult social care services. There is a strong friends group for Caledonian Park who are a key stakeholder.

Duties:

The main role of the Learning Officer is to lead on the continued development and implementation of a sustainable programme of public engagement by:

1. Developing the formal and informal learning programme * Manage the development of the centre's schools resources * Devise and develop special projects for target audiences

2. Delivering the public engagement programme * Manage and deliver the learning programme * Manage external learning specialists * Manage the engagement budget, evaluation process and reporting

3. Managing the stakeholder input * Work in partnership to develop community engagement * Manage community stakeholder input * Collaborate with cultural organisations in Islington to deliver partnerships

  • Review and develop the learning strategy and NLHF Activity Plan for the Clock Tower Centre
  • Develop and maintain internal partnerships that will help to achieve the project's programming vision and objectives, including colleagues in adult care, children's services and Children's Centres etc.
  • Develop and maintain external partnerships to support and enhance the project's vision and objectives, including cultural, well being and community support organisations in the geographic area and those further afield who have similar community and well being aims.
  • Create and lead imaginative cross curricular learning programmes for local primary, special and secondary schools relevant to the National Curriculum including those around STEAM subjects, history and geography
  • Collaborate with the Heritage Learning Officer, based at Islington Museum, to establish a joint and complementary learning programme at both sites
  • Collaborate with the community to co-produce exciting, fun community programmes including family, under 5s activities
  • Develop, promote and deliver a programme of activities for families and for under 5s, working with the Heritage Ranger
  • Develop, promote and deliver a programme of activities for older people working closely with Age UK Islington
  • Supervise volunteers, work placements and external contractors
  • Be responsible for the budgets relating to learning and engagement
  • Keep up to date with current community and learning priorities locally and nationally and take responsibility for own personal development and professional awareness
  • Report on progress and maintain records of learning programmes, including evaluation as part of the NLHF Activity Plan
  • Ensure the requirements of Health and Safety legislation and the Council's relevant policies are carried out in relation to the responsibilities of the job
  • At all times carry out responsibilities and duties with due regard to the Council's Dignity for All Policy and the Data Protection Act and other legislation
  • Ensure all services within the area(s) of responsibility are provided in accordance with the Council's commitment to high quality service provision to users
  • Achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as agreed by the line manager
  • Work in a corporate, co-operative and collaborative way with other Council officers

Experience:

  • Recognised professional museum or heritage education qualification
  • Experience of working in a heritage site, museum or similar cultural environment
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the educational and well being role of heritage sites and parks, and the awareness of current thinking around this
  • Experience of designing and delivering learning programmes that meet the identified needs of a target audience, such as families, schools, people facing discrimination or social exclusion
  • Experience of collaborating and co-producing learning initiatives with partner organisations and targeted groups to produce new, innovative learning initiatives
  • Experience of managing volunteers and student placements
  • Ability to manage learning projects including development, reporting, risk management, and evaluation
  • Social media skills to promote the project and engage new audiences
