The Client:
Is a public research university in Bloomsbury, central London, and a member institution of the University of London that specialises in public health and tropical medicine.
The role of Learning Technologist is a position in the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) and sits within Technology-Enhanced Learning – part of the Digital Learning team. The role holder will provide pedagogic and technical guidance and encouragement to support staff and students in the use of technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment. They will contribute to the enhancement of the quality, impact and experience of digital learning at the School. They will be required to keep up to date with learning technology developments in Higher Education and engage in the wider development of the sector.
The Role:
• Act as a main contact in CELT for staff for matters relating to digital learning, teaching and assessment technologies used by the School and its associated partners.
• Contribute to the ongoing technical and pedagogic development of the School’s VLE under direction from the Head of Digital Learning, Director of CELT and other stakeholders.
• Design, run and evaluate staff development activities to support the pedagogic and technical use and impact of digital technologies for learning, teaching and assessment.
• Support the School in using appropriate technologies to support student learning and creating online activities that deliver an engaging student digital learning experience.
• Respond to staff and student technology-enhanced learning enquiries in a timely manner.
• Design and create digital assets for learning, teaching and assessment, in line with School brand guidelines, copyright policies and accessibility statements, under guidance from the Head of Digital learning and/or Director of CELT.
• Support areas of digital learning technologies relevant to CELT and School priorities and in agreement with the Head of Digital Learning / Director of CELT e.g., digital inclusion, MOOCs/OERs, digital skills/literacy and online learning.
• Support with technical/pedagogical updates and enhancements to online learning materials, under direction from the Head of Digital Learning / Director of CELT.
• Design, deliver and evaluate workshops for students to support the development of digital skills/literacies for their academic studies and future career, where appropriate.
• Undertake data analysis related to the use of digital learning technologies, reporting findings to the Head of Digital Learning and/or Director of CELT to help inform the strategic direction of the School.
• Keep up to date with learning technology developments in Higher Education.
• Trouble-shoot issues related to digital learning, teaching and assessment; problem-solve and provide timely solutions.
• Monitor the performance of digital learning approaches and suggest any necessary enhancements to further their impact.
• Pilot new technologies for teaching and learning, under the guidance of the Head of Digital Learning / Director of CELT.
• Show initiative, working both independently and as part of a team to agreed deadlines.
Collaboration and Liaison
• Work collaboratively with staff across faculties and professional services to support digital learning, teaching and assessment at the School.
• Contribute to, and lead where appropriate, digital learning projects and the broader activities of the CELT, under guidance from the Head of Digital Learning / Director of CELT.
• Attend internal and external committees, meetings and groups relevant to this role.
