My university client is currently hiring for a Linux Support Engineer to support their department on a permanent basis - with extremely generous holidays of 42 days per year (including 8 bank holidays and 4 days for Christmas) and a great team culture, this is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking for their next role.
The Linux Support Engineer sits inside the Platform Services Team. This is a hybrid role entailing 1-3 days in the office - working remotely, the office, and relevant data centres when necessary.
Main Responsibilities
- General Technical Requirements
- A working knowledge of the following systems is necessary to provide third-line support.
- Linux systems based on Redhat Enterprise Linux / CentOS / Rocky Linux and Ubuntu.
- Web servers and reverse proxies used by the University, Students, Staff, Research and Applications.
- LAMP based applications such as Moodle (VLE) and WordPress which include production, test and development systems.
- F5 Big IP Load balancers.
- Samba Servers.
- Nagios monitoring systems.
- Prometheus / Grafana monitoring systems.
- RADIUS / LDAP Proxies.
- Backend management systems such as Ansible and Katello.
- Deploying systems to both physical hardware / servers and Virtual Servers (VMWare).
- A working knowledge of the following systems is necessary to provide third-line support.
- Third Line Support
- Provided general third line support via the central call management system and directly with Service Managers as required.
- Script Development
- Develop scripts, programs and playbooks to automate repetitive tasks and for use by support staff to carry out systems tasks.
