Position: Permanent 
Mail Newspapers consists of some of the most iconic and successful newspaper brands in the world, including the Daily MailThe Mail on Sunday and mailonline.co.uk.
Our dedicated health sections are a trusted, authoritative voice – offering the very latest health news, insight and expert advice, and we are looking for a dynamic and tenacious Deputy Health Editor to join our award-winning team. 
Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate closely with the Health Editor in planning, developing and curating unparalleled health content for both print and digital platforms.
  • Commission and work with writers, reporters and medical experts to make sure every piece of copy is sparkling and informative.
  • Write regularly on everything from breaking medical news and analysis to longer reads and comment, major investigations, special reports and potential splashes.
  • Generate fresh story ideas, hunt down exclusives, uncover compelling angles and spot talking points that will engage, inform and surprise our millions of readers.
  • Edit and fact-check articles to make sure they are accurate, clear and authoritative.
  • Ensure health content is visually appealing to readers through the use of graphics, pictures and interactive tools.
  • Work on every aspect of production alongside picture desks, designers and subbing teams. 
  • Coordinate assignments, deadlines, and ensure that the team adheres to editorial guidelines.
  • Make connections with experts in a wide variety of health fields, from public health, and Government policy, to research science, drug development, surgery, medicine, nutrition and beyond, to help find and share their stories.         
  • Engage with our army of committed readers, answering their queries and using their messages, letters and social media comments as a springboard for stories.


The above list is not exhaustive and constantly evolving, based on the needs of the business. Out of hours availability and a high level of adaptability are essential.
This is a full-time role based in our offices in Kensington.
Qualifications 

  • Degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, Health Sciences, or a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in health journalism, preferably in editorial or senior writing roles.
  • Profound understanding of the medical world, health trends and issues, alongside with a genuine passion for these subjects.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, coupled with a meticulous eye for detail.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, multitask, and work with a team of journalists.
  • Proficiency in digital media tools, content management systems, and multimedia integration.
  • Strong research aptitude and a natural ability to distil complex information into easy-to-understand, reader-oriented content.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate professional relationships with experts, sources, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.
