Job description

The Team

The Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG), a part of KPMG Deal Advisory (DA), consists of over 350 professionals in the UK and is widely recognised as a leading independent financial, business and regulatory adviser in the infrastructure space. IAG has won many awards, including Financial Advisor of the Year (Infrastructure Journal) for several years. The IAG provides in-depth advice on strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across Transport, Power & Utilities, and Social Infrastructure in the UK and globally. Our work includes market and policy design, economic and regulatory analysis, deal structuring and execution, as well as strategic and transaction advice to enable private and public capital to fund infrastructure. We work closely with other functions within KPMG to advise clients on mergers and acquisitions, valuations, tax, accounting, and due diligence.

Power & Utilities (P&U) is one of the largest business units in the IAG with c80 professionals. It encompasses work for large corporates in the sector, including all energy, water and other utilities, as well as for investors and suppliers to these sectors. We provide in-depth strategic and technical advice on corporate finance and corporate financial management, regulatory finance, regulatory policy, business and financial planning, cost assessment and benchmarking as well as in other areas directly affecting value. Our work combines elements of policy, finance, strategy and economics to assist our clients in structuring investments, securing financing, operating effectively in a regulatory regime and maximising shareholder value. We are widely recognised by many industry stakeholders as market leaders influencing the future of the infrastructure and utilities sectors.

Our P&U business is currently divided into several practices including Finance, Regulation, Projects, Renewables, Strategy, Benchmarking and Transactions and is continuously expanding with consistent double-digit growth over the last 10 years. The Transactions team within IAG P&U consists of several professionals with a plan to double the capacity over the next year. As such we are looking for high quality candidates to support our growth and development of existing and new service lines, while building on the work already undertaken by the business. Our team comprises people from different nationalities and backgrounds and diversity is an important element of who we are.

Services provided by the Transactions team include:

  • Strategic and market analysis for potential acquisitions and corporate actions
  • Regulatory due diligence on transactions involving regulated utilities
  • Commercial due diligence across Power & Utilities infrastructure assets
  • Financial modelling, financial and scenarios analysis
  • Transaction advice, deal structuring and execution
  • Financial advice, working in conjunction with our M&A practice

The Role

Based in London, as a Manager in the Transactions practice in P&U the individual will be responsible for:

  • Providing advice on large and complex transactions and leveraging the specialist skills across the P&U team (strategy/market/regulation/regulatory finance/benchmarking/financial modelling etc.)
  • Providing financial advice on transactions
  • Generally contributing to originating transaction-related advisory mandates in the P&U sector
  • Working closely with our colleagues in other parts of KPMG Deal Advisory to develop and maintain business relationships with investors, primarily infrastructure funds, pension funds, etc
  • Building a strong external and internal network to promote our services and the value provided
  • Contributing to ensuring that KPMG's quality and risk management procedures are completed to the appropriate standard
  • Coaching and mentoring junior members of the team

The Candidate

The candidate should have:

  • Experience of working on transactions in utilities and infrastructure, either with an M&A or a Consulting background
  • Detailed understanding of transaction process and execution
  • Good knowledge of utilities and energy sectors in the UK (key market segments) and ability to identify and analyse key value drivers on a particular transaction in the Power & Utilities market
  • Ability to carry out financial analysis on transactions including different valuation methods
  • Ability to work at pace and during intense periods of live transactions
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills
