A leading company in the infrastructure services sector is recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to work on various energy projects in the UK, initially based in North London.

Role Overview

As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of our Commercial team responsible for managing all commercial aspects of projects, including client liaison, internal and external reporting, and managing third-party interactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Compile relevant information for preparation of reports and claims to agreed timescales.
• Assist with the ongoing implementation of the commercial application in respect of site personnel while developing lasting relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers.
• Refer constantly to the project risk management plan for thorough, accurate, high-level risk assessment. Monitor the register and related documentation.
• Take ultimate responsibility for all sub-contractor management, ensuring compliance and timely submissions, and produce all necessary documentation.
• Increase knowledge of commercial issues and contract law, managing and agreeing compensation events/variations/claims.
• Suggest and develop processes for increased accuracy and efficiency, minimizing time spent on journal and reconciliation tasks.
• Liaise with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to maintain appropriate commercial cover.
• Assist the team and Project Manager, Engineers, and Planners with contract cost recovery and profit enhancement.
• Assist with the production of monthly project financial and forecast reports for analysis with Finance and Commercial staff.
• Develop sound and balanced negotiating skills.
• Attend handover and progress meetings as requested.
• Help produce a site commercial manual and documents to record variations.
• Undertake monthly reporting for both client and internal purposes, ensuring comprehensive variance analysis and positive cash collection.
• Comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of current Health and Safety, Quality, and Environmental Policies.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

Excellent negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Analytical skills and financial awareness.

Proficiency in IT, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Knowledge of contract costing and contract law NEC 3 & 4, Options A, C & E.

Previous experience in Quantity Surveying.

Experience in contract management, including capturing site records for variations and valuations.

Subcontract management and cost/value reconciliation.

Qualification in Quantity Surveying.

Full, clean UK driving license.

Strategic thinking and motivational leadership.

Presentational skills and relationship building.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Project management skills and business analysis/business process re-engineering.

Knowledge of the industry.
