Applications are invited for the post of Mortuary Manager for the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, looking for an experienced individual with proven technical and mortuary management skills to lead our enthusiastic team in maintaining and developing service quality.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills, display meticulous attention to detail and have extensive knowledge of Mortuary function and end-of-life care. Our service is comprised of a dual site mortuary service under a single hub and satellite HTA-license, with Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital Mortuary currently providing hospital and Coronial services, and The Royal Hampshire County Hospital Mortuary providing hospital, Coronial and forensic mortuary services. In total, more than 1200 Coronial Postmortems are carried out annually over both sites. Applicants should have a detailed awareness of HTA standards and licensing requirements through previous involvement as a Person Designate.
The successful candidate will have experience of working across agencies with an innate empathic approach towards the bereaved and a supportive attitude to colleagues in an emotionally and physically demanding workplace. The role will include participating in the 24/7 on-call service and as a dual site mortuary service, the successful candidate will arrange their time and work base to best fit demand and to ensure consistent leadership of the overall service. Permanent position: 37.5 hours + on call
The Mortuary Manager will:
Manage Mortuary provision and development of a comprehensive mortuary service at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital at Winchester mortuaries.
Organise staff in the day to day operational rota, overseeing and supporting Site Lead APTs to train junior staff when conducting post mortem examinations, receiving / releasing and ensuring that confidentiality and dignity of the deceased are maintained at all times
Apply specialist knowledge and skills for forensic, high risk cases and reconstruction.
Apply excellent general management skills to assist the Cellular Pathology Department Manager to create and implement developmental work, policies and procedures
Apply a detailed knowledge of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) Standards to assist the Designated Individual with compliance and assurance, and be responsible for departmental quality management and accreditation compliance.
