Job description

About The Role

Ever wanted to play your part in an exciting service that really makes a difference to everyone’s lives? We’ve been awarded 111 Devon from the 1st of October 2022 and we are excited to recruit for our 111 sites in Plymouth.

This is your chance to train to be a Health Advisor in our 111 contact centre, handling calls from members of the public. You’ll learn how to use a state-of-the-art triage tool called NHS Pathways to assess patients over the phone and direct them to the most appropriate care. Although these are not emergency calls, you’ll also need to be prepared to deal with emotional, distressing or life-threatening scenarios and to arrange for 999 services if required.

We offer enhanced pay rates for weekends, we are offering part-time roles from 16 - 35 hours per week to cover our core shifts and assist patients when they most need us. You must be willing and committed to work a mixture of weekdays and weekends.
Please note: If you do require hours of more than 35 hours per week, including full-time hours (37.5 hours), we may be able to accommodate you if you are happy to work more weekend hours (this may mean working every weekend and taking days off during the week). You will need to invest in at least a minimum of 16 hours per week.
You can choose from the two training options:

Full-Time Monday-Friday (9am-5pm) for 4 weeks

Part-Time Tues, Weds, Thurs (6pm-10pm) and Sat-Sun (9am-5pm) for 6 weeks (Mixture of remote and onsite)

You must attend every training day. This is followed by a further eight weeks’ support before you are signed off as a fully accredited/licensed Pathways Health Advisor.

Upcoming training dates:

Monday 7th May - Full Time Training
Monday 10th June - Full Time Training
Saturday 15th June - Full Time Training
Monday 8th July - Full Time Training
Saturday 27th July - Part Time Training

What you'll be doing

As a member of the Integrated Urgent Care team (IUC), you will be first point of contact for members of the public with a 24 hour urgent but non-emergency health concern, you will be providing advice and signposting assistance to onward care utilising the NHS Pathways triage system.

  • Transfer calls to our clinical assessment service which is on hand 24/7 to provide expert advice, assessment and support, preventing the need for patients to make further calls.
The training has three components:
1. Foundation training (four weeks broken down into two core modules)
2. Audit, coaching and probation period (minimum of six months) followed by a one day sign off course.
3. Ongoing audit, development and update training.

What you will get:

  • Pay:

  • 25 days’ annual leave, increasing with service up to 28 days per year + bank holidays.
  • Great job security and full support for ongoing career progression into coaching, training and management roles.

  • Integrated Urgent Care team benefits that range from Healthcare Hero Awards and recognition prizes to themed occasions, charity days, a fantastic range of social events + the option of overtime to boost your earnings.
Once successful in your Interview, we will invite you to the contact centre to listen to live patient calls with one of our Health Advisor coaches.
