Soft FM Services are responsible for cleaning and portering services to the university’s academic, administrative, and residential estate. Soft FM facilitates all university key events, such as graduation and open days and ensures areas are prepared for other events such as receptions and summer conferences. Soft FM Services are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Operations Assistant to join our busy team. Duties of the Role This role is responsible for delivering cleaning and portering services to the Colchester campus and will work alongside a team of other Cleaners and Operations Assistants on weekends. Appointment to this post will be made on a part-time (15 hours per week) permanent basis to be worked as required within the working operational window (05.30am – 8.00pm, 5 days in 7 days). The current working pattern is 05.30am – 1.45pm Saturday and Sunday. However, in the interests of working efficiency the University may from time-to-time review current working patterns. Changes to working patterns resulting from this will be subject to a minimum of 21 calendar days’ notice. Skills and qualifications required The post holder will need to have an awareness and knowledge of Health and Safety legislation including COSHH, fire safety and working practises; good communication skills (listening, verbal and written); and a full UK manual driving licence in order to operate campus vehicles. The postholder must be able to carry out physical aspects of the job including manual handling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling; read, understand and follow written instruction to facilitate tasks and carry out the safe use of chemicals and equipment. The postholder must have good IT skills to use tablet and phone apps. You will be expected to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. You will undertake cleaning tasks to a high standard paying close attention to detail. The postholder must meet requirements UK ‘right to work’ legislation; have a flexible approach to work, a positive outlook and professional manner; be committed to delivering excellent customer service.
