An Operations Manager with experience of working in a Project-led environment is sought by a Tyneside based Engineering company
As the Operations Manager you will be responsible for overseeing daily activities and maximising productivity, particularly in project deliveries, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and scope. Current projects are technical automation projects and vary from simple delivery projects to complex software/ hardware development projects and vary in duration from months to several years.
Main Responsibilities will include: -
- Oversee all project deliveries and customer services, including support services
- Ensure that operational activities remain on time and within budget
- Plan and manage schedules, process and the delivery of products and projects in line with customers’ requirements and specifications
- Oversee project scope and change management
- Review project execution processes with a view to improving efficiencies and project profitability
- Lead, motivate, and support the team and manage staff levels, recruit, train and supervise staff and external resources
- Pro-actively manage the relationship with clients and all stakeholders
- Manage the selection of, and relationship with, key suppliers and agree pricing
- Ensure on-time customer invoicing and review and approve material purchasing
- Manage root cause and drive corrective and preventative actions on any issues.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery and cost.
- Ensure quality assurance in all aspects of operations
- Track, manage and report on progress, problems and solutions
- Pro-actively manage risks and contingency plans
- Drive cross-functional teams to improve proprietary tools and systems to support all functions of the business and foster a culture of working together.
The ideal candidate will have experience of managing all aspects of complex engineering projects, including clients, resources, procurement / key suppliers, quality, safety, risks, budget, schedules and deliverables and be capable of solving problems and adapting to changing circumstances.
You will need a good engineering background ideally within Electrical Engineering or Industrial Controls & Automation and several years of relevant, broad engineering project / operations management . Good business and organisational skills with a focus on processes and people management are needed as are strong communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and interface with a multidisciplinary team including R&D, sales and finance. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions and continuous improvement in all areas are essential.
