JOB TITLE: Pharmaceutical Courier
SALARY: £10.42
LOCATION: Belfast
HOURS: 37.5,9 – 5.30 Monday – Friday, and with half dayshifts on rota basis for weekends (Saturday 9am – 1pm, Sunday 10am – 2pm)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The person appointed will be a member of a team providingthe pharmaceutical service in the Belfast Trust. He/she will be managed by the Pharmacist/Technician in charge of distribution or his/her deputy.
Pharmacy support staff are primarily involved in thedelivery and collection of pharmaceuticals including medical gas cylinders andpharmacy store duties.
He/she will be required to ensure all activity is carriedout safely, effectively, efficiently and courteously, and relevantdocumentation is maintained and that all are updated.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a BTECLevel 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practise for Pharmacy Support Staffand complete any additional training/ competency assessment relevant to therole. This qualification must be obtained within a reasonable timeframe.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
1. Collectionand delivery of pharmaceuticals and post.
2. Receiving,emptying and sorting of the contents of incoming ward/department pharmacyboxes.
3. Packingof ward/department pharmacy boxes with completed orders and storing safely fordelivery.
4. Collectionand disposal of debris and rubbish and pharmaceutical waste and maintainworking areas free of waste materials.
5. Deliveryof medical gas cylinders to wards and departments and returning empty cylindersto the cylinder store
6. Deliveryof pharmaceuticals including prescriptions and all completed work from thedispensary section
7. Maintainingappropriate stock levels in a neat, clean and orderly manner in accordance withthe principles of good stock management.
8. Participatingin the delivery of ward top-ups and intravenous fluids.
9. Assist inthe receipt of pharmacy deliveries and the safe and secure storage ofpharmaceuticals.
10. Assistother members of the pharmacy team in ensuring the storage environment iscorrect for the products.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
The following are ESSENTIAL criteria which will initially bemeasured at shortlisting stage although may also be further explored during theinterview/selection stage.

• 5 GCSE's grades A-G or equivalent,must include Maths and English.
OR
Hold a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Principles and Practisefor Pharmacy Support Staff or an NVQ2 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent inPharmacy Services*).
• Willingto undertake a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Principles and Practise for PharmacySupport Staff.
*Equivalent qualifications in accordance with GeneralPharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Accreditated qualifications Shortlisting by Application Form
