At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That's why we we're looking for someone talented, someone determined, someone like you.

What will I be doing?

Without any government funding, the Philanthropy directorate plays a significant role in securing the donations Cancer Research UK needs to fund our vital research.

The Crick Event Specialist ensures that prospects and donors to the Francis Crick Institute receive high-quality interactions that help foster long-term engagement and deliver income growth.

Working across philanthropy teams at CRUK and the Crick, the role will curate and deliver a sector leading events programme for the Crick pipeline.

This is an exciting time to join the CRUK philanthropy team, as we prepare to launch an ambitious multi-million-pound fundraising campaign this year.

Key duties include:

  • Develop the strategic events programme to support the Crick's fundraising objectives, drawing on donor insights to develop the most effective experiences that maximise prospect engagement, donor loyalty and engagement.
  • Deliver events within the Crick portfolio, ensuring their outputs are audience-led, creative, sector leading and delivered to the expected standard.
  • Manage relationships with senior Crick stakeholders in relation to the development of the events team's strategy and the implementation of events, to include informing, consulting and influencing.
  • Work collaboratively with Philanthropy services colleagues to ensure events activity contributes to a seamless supporter journey and is joined up with the central CRUK events programme.
  • Act as a liaison between the Crick Communications and Events team, working collaboratively to leverage existing event opportunities, and promote greater collaboration and information sharing.
  • Lead on the development of strong relationships with relevant teams to ensure expertise are maximised across the Crick to offer high value audiences' access and involvement in the Crick's most relevant, inspiring and compelling work.
  • Create and implement an event reporting system with KPIs and metrics to monitor and evaluate the success and impact of events activity.
  • Set, manage and monitor the budget for Crick events activity, maximising cost efficiency.

What skills are we looking for?

  • Significant events management experience, ideally in the context of delivering events that enable high value fundraising through relationship-building.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of the principles of major gift fundraising and a proven aptitude for donor care.
  • Demonstrable experience of applying creative thinking to innovate and develop new opportunities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex information in an accessible format for major donors.
  • Experience of setting up, analysing and evaluating activity and programmes.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Packages with experience of using databases, particularly within fundraising.
  • Proven success of managing suppliers/agencies.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to managing change and ambiguity.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in complex environments and with multiple stakeholder groups.

What will I gain?

Each and every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer. We think that's impressive.

In return, we make sure you are supported by a generous benefits package, a wide range of career and personal development opportunities and high-quality tools, policies and processes to enable you to do your job well.

Our benefits package includes a substantial retirement plan, a generous and flexible leave allowance, discounts on anything from travel to technology, gym membership, and much more.

We review pay annually and aim to recognise individual performance and achievements.

We don't forget people have lives outside of work too and so we actively encourage a flexible working culture.

Our work - from funding cutting-edge research to developing public policy - will change the world. It's exciting to be part of our team.

How do I apply?

We operate an anonymised shortlisting process in our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. CVs are required for all applications; but we won't be able to view them until we invite you for an interview. Instead, we ask you to complete the work history section of the online application form for us to be able to assess you quickly, fairly and objectively.
