Our client a well-recognised professional membership body with over 40,000 students and members worldwide is currently seeking to appoint a Professional Development Director.
The Role
Leading a committed team, the Professional Development Director will be responsible for shaping and delivering the qualifications, Professional Development and life long learning of the institute's members and the wider member community, and will play a key role in supporting the Institute's strategy for growth.
Main responsibilities/accountabilities
Lead the development, implementation and delivery of the Institute's new transformational programme for professional qualifications, assessment, accreditations and routes to membership, with all work informed by market insight and supported by robust project management
Ensure that the Institute's learning and development proposition is progressive and market facing, that it meets the needs of the profession, employers, stakeholders and the market, and that evidence-based practice is identified, benchmarked and embedded in our thinking and planning
Ensure that the International Qualifying Programme delivered by the institute maintains its accreditation by the global Institute
Develop and support a confident, high performing team with the necessary functional expertise and technical knowledge and clear team and individual objectives mapped to the Institute's wider strategic goals. Embed a collaborative and inclusive culture aligned to the Institutes values and inspire excitement for the work of the team across all departments.
Develop and manage relationships with a variety of external partners, suppliers, and stakeholders across the sectors to raise the institute profile in the sector and help position the institute work as an exemplar of professional education and lifelong learning
Develop and manage the departmental annual budget and risk register together with the performance and business reporting requirements of the role
Lead on all interactions with the Education and Learning Committee and Assessment Review Panel (ARP) building strong working relationships with the committee chairs, agreeing agenda items and reports and allocating resource to administration.
Work closely with the Commercial Director to identify new opportunities, and prepare business cases, for the expansion of the institute portfolio of qualifications, certificates and Professional Development products
Lead on interaction with the global institute's Professional Standards Committee including shaping the institute responses to consultations, advising on assessment and market expectations
Act as the 'voice' of education and learning throughout the organization by creating meaningful feedback loops, building strong cross-functional relationships and representing the learning and development function at events, meeting and as required.
As a member of the senior leadership team, contribute to the overall strategic and business planning for the Institute
Person Specification
Educated to degree level
years professional relevant experience including 5 years managerial experience
Good understanding of the structure and governance of professional institutes and membership bodies
Substantial experience in providing the strategic direction and leadership on the development and delivery of professional qualifications and Professional Development
Excellent understanding of current and future trends and regulation in professional learning and development and familiarity with digital learning technologies
Researching best practice to enable the best design of professional qualifications and Professional Development
Evidence-based practice
Analysing and using data to identify/evaluate improvements in the development and delivery of professional qualifications and Professional Development.
Experience of leading, motivating, coaching and developing a talented pool of staff, contractors and volunteers prioritising and managing resources as required
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively and command the respect of tutors, examiners and trainers as well as students, employers, and members
Building strong cross functional relationships
Ability to implement communication systems to keep all stakeholders regularly updated on programmes of work and share successes and learnings
A solid understanding of the use of MS Office in an office environment, especially MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Ability to perform as a strategic leader and decision maker
