SalarySalary: £37,336 to £40,221 per annum.
Location: Your office base will be Worthing and a typical week will combine homeworking with attendance at the office or site visits. This is led by the needs of the service.
Contract: Permanent.
Working pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week. Flexible working options available, to be agreed with your line manager.
Employer Pension Contribution: 20.70% this alters per annum on 01.04.
Annual leave: 27 days holiday + Bank holidays = 35 days.
Come join us and make a real difference. Your focus will be ensuring that landowners fulfil their riparian responsibilities for Drainage. Your role is essential in assisting teams in investigating drainage issues that affect the highway. You'll work closely with landowners and District and Borough Councils to ensure riparian responsibilities are met.
You will work with colleagues in our Drainage Team and the Flood Risk Management Team (in Planning Services) to plan and organise works as part of any formal enforcement action the council might need to take. As a senior member of the Team, you will deal with more complex customer responses and will delegate for managers as required.
You will act as mentor to the Project Support Officer. You will task manage day to day activity, advising on appropriate actions and ensuring that cases are moved forward in a timely and efficient manner.
What we need from you:
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to exchange information with a wide variety of external sources.
- Ability to anticipate and identify problems, plan solutions, make sound pragmatic problem-solving decisions and make the best use of available resources.
- Clear and decisive thinking skills, able to make accurate and timely decisions.
- Degree / HNC in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience of highway / land drainage and engineering, demonstrating a high level of technical and theoretical knowledge or application over a range of scenarios.
- Thorough practical and theoretical experience in a drainage environment.
- Knowledge of the Highways Act, and other relevant pieces of legislation, including health and safety.
- Full current driver's licence to carry out driven inspections and travel around the county.
- Sound and accurate IT knowledge.
