We have an exciting opportunity to join the Pathogen Genomics Services! Our mission within the Genomics Sequencing Service is to support UKHSA’s genomics surveillance initiatives. We play a crucial role in detecting outbreaks and tracking infection transmission. Additionally, we meticulously analyze genomics data, linking it to virulence and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms. Our goal is to generate evidence that informs effective interventions, contributing to the broader UKHSA objective of reducing the overall public health burden

As a Project Support Officer, your role encompasses a diverse array of tasks aimed at facilitating the achievement of the project’s objectives. Your responsibilities include ensuring the seamless execution of the project by assisting Project Managers with project management processes and coordinating various business management actions and activities

Job description

Responsibilities section:

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

  • Implement and maintain systems to enable effective planning and scheduling for the project
  • Implement and maintain project controls.
  • Produce project status reports, performance data and research new information
  • Manage and monitor compliance of the project in line with UKHSA guidelines and legislation, including Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity and Security.
  • Support the Project Managers with workforce planning.
  • Manage the procurement of project supplies and services within Delegated Financial Authority limits.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Draft and sign off correspondence.
  • Act as a point of contact for project responses to requests for information and signpost accordingly.
  • Monitor project spend, compile budgets, and support the development of business cases.

Essential Criteria:

  • Educated to degree level/NVQ 6 in relevant subject or equivalent experience in a similar area of work
  • Working knowledge in a project or programme environment covering planning, scheduling, resource management, risks and issues, governance, project methodologies and assurance
  • Works well under pressure, effectively manages multiple tasks, in a fast-changing and ambiguous environment, with a keen attention to detail.

STAGE 1 - APPLICATION & SIFT:

You will be required to complete an application form. This will be assessed in line with the full list of essential criteria as detailed in the attached job description – please do provide evidence of how you meet this.

Your Statement of Suitability should outline your skills, experience, and achievements, providing evidence of your suitability for the role, with reference to the essential criteria (outlined in the person specification section).

You will also be asked to provide information within the ‘Employer/ Activity history’ section of the application form. This is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV, setting out your career history.

If you are successful at this stage, you will progress to an interview.

STAGE 2 – INTERVIEW

This competition will involve a Teams interview.

As part of the process, candidates will be invited to interview which will involve an in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence in relation to the criteria set out in the Person Specification.
