The recruitment team, work with hiring managers across Brighton and Hove City Council processing both internal and external hires for a variety of diverse roles from lifeguards to lawyers, tree surgeons to toilet cleaners, plasterers to planning professionals. Our aim is to help support hiring managers deliver an effective, efficient, and safe recruitment service, hiring the right person for the right job, while implementing processes to help recruit a diverse and inclusive workforce representative of our city.
As a Recruitment Officer, you will:
- Play a key role contributing to our commitment to recruit a diverse and skilled workforce by ensuring an effective recruitment service.
- Manage your own workload of appointed candidates while having access to a supportive recruitment team and HR resources to help you deliver the best recruitment service.
- Be the first point of contact for Hiring Manager’s recruitment queries. Offering them help and guidance in the recruitment process, including using our recruitment system Tribepad.
- Provide excellent customer service to candidates using the recruitment service by offering guidance and updates on the progress of their onboarding.
- Be responsible for transactional activity such as posting vacancies to the Council website, creating contracts, performing pre-employment checks (e.g. references, Right to Work in the UK and DBS checks) and ensuring that new starters are set up on our payroll system.
- Contribute to the implementation of policies and sound transactional processes allowing the recruitment of a diverse and skilled workforce.
You will be someone who:
- Can work both independently and as a member of a supportive team while planning and prioritising work in a fast-paced environment, including working to specific deadlines.
- Has great customer service experience and communication skills, including being able to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and making sure that their needs are met.
- Can handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Has competent IT skills, with the confidence to learn and use recruitment and background-checking software.
No previous experience working within recruitment is required. This role is a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in Human Resources. We offer a wide variety of recruitment training including specific recruitment inductions. The role also provides a platform to expand your HR knowledge by offering an insight into wider HR processes and scenarios.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
