Flint House Police Rehabilitation is a registered Charity offering rehabilitation services to ill or injured serving and retired police officers suffering from a wide variety of physical and mental health conditions. Located just outside Goring on Thames, every year we treat over 3,000 police officers.
We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our Nursing team.
Purpose
To identify priorities and deal with risk to ensure that the quality of care and service delivered is maintained and improved, putting the needs and well-being of patients first.
To enable patients to access and fully utilise the rehabilitation facilities available, including health promotion and treatments and to also ensure that patients, staff and public safety is protected by adhering to Flint House’s policies and procedures.
Hours of work: Full-time Monday to Friday on rota basis to include night shift (37.5 hours a week)
Principal Accountabilities
Processing all electronic physiotherapy application forms from prospective patients, identifying those requiring further action or assessment. Contacting those indicating health issues including mental health, medication needs or any requirements for specific nursing assistance.
Assessing new patients on admission day, including care planning where appropriate. Providing support and obtaining baseline observations to ensure that the rehabilitation programme recommended and provided is both appropriate and safe. Following up any abnormal observations by referral to the local GP services or emergency services if required.
Liaising with both the Mental Health and Rehabilitation departments regarding patient medical fitness to undergo any planned treatments and providing support to clinicians and patients to achieve maximum benefit from any clinical treatment.
Responding to any clinical needs of patients such as administering first aid including mental health first aid, dealing with medical emergencies, assisting dependent patients, resuscitation and infection control to ensure patient safety throughout the period of treatment.
Co-presenting at the weekly welcome meeting, leading daily and weekly classes and workshops in order to promote holistic well-being through health education and screening.
Providing mental health support to patients in distress and communicating with the mental health team as necessary or the emergency services out of hours, to ensure patient safety and continuing care.
Mentoring and supporting Nursing Assistants and Bank Nurses in any aspect of their roles as required, supervising such staff in the absence of the Lead Nurse.
Ensuring, in the absence of the Lead Nurse that adequate cover is in place dependent on patient numbers, degree of patient disability and the skills mix of available staff. Organising or changing the duty rota in the absence of the Lead Nurse to facilitate this.
Essential
Registered General Nurse or Registered Nurse - Adult Branch, with specific knowledge of National Standards and the NMC Code of Practice
Varied and extensive nursing and clinical experience gained from having worked in different hospitals and departments
Background in person-centred care planning
Working knowledge of Data Protection regulations and confidentiality requirements surrounding any personal data
Satisfactory DBS clearance

Experience of having worked with patients with mental health issues
Competent in the use of MS Office suite together with previous experience of having used computerised medical note systems
Enjoys presenting to groups including the delivery of formal and informal programmes of teaching to colleagues and other care professionals
Knowledge of infection control policies and procedures and safeguarding
