Job description

We are really pleased to offer this opportunity to join our team in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care as Research Assistant. The primary purpose of this post is to ensure the successful and timely completion of research led by Prof Harding. In this role you will support a UK study to advance the science and practice of outcome measurement with and for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening illness. You will be required to provide high level project support, working with patients, families and clinical sites; supporting data analysis; co-ordination of quantitative data collection; supporting participants; entering collected data into the study databases, and organising and supporting multi-disciplinary meetings. You will also be expected to prepare papers and reports from the work, and take an active role in related research projects and applications of Professor Harding and other colleagues. This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31/08/2024. This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent. Skills, knowledge, and experience Essential criteria A degree in health or social sciences or similar awarded to a high level (e.g. first or 2.1)  Good organisation and time management skills, with ability to prioritise, and complete tasks accurately within set deadlines Excellent verbal and written communication skills Able grasp new information, learn new skills and processes quickly, with ability to be self-supporting Excellent computing skills, including accurate and fast typing, use of reference management databases, and ability to use packages to support data analysis and presentation (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Demonstrates a commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students  Relevant research experience and understanding, demonstrated by participation in research projects, research management or support specifically in palliative care, health services research or a related field Knowledge of academic report requirements, including referencing styles Knowledge and skills on adherence to the Data Protection Act and Good Clinical Practice guidelines Desirable criteria A postgraduate qualification, e.g. MSc or PhD   Data analysis skills in managing SPSS data base (or equivalent) and descriptive and inferential statistics  Understanding of qualitative research methods and data analysis  Candidates are strongly encouraged to specifically address the essential criteria outlined in the Person Specification in their covering letter.
