Job description
We seek an engaged, collaborative Research Development Manager (RDM) to join a thriving team, working on Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences Research Development projects. Candidates should hold a PhD in a natural sciences or engineering-relevant discipline; they will join a thriving team of two Research Development Managers already working across this disciplinary area. The role offers both disciplinary and interdisciplinary development opportunities; and scope to design and deliver targeted skills training for our academic community. We welcome applicants who meet the criteria (below), who may have a non-linear CV.
The RDM will help deliver University and Faculty research funding priorities, supporting the development and coordination of research funding applications to public and third sector funders. They will work closely with academic staff in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences to understand their research funding goals, encouraging and supporting applications to appropriate opportunities from concept to award offer. They will support the coordination of responses to funding calls, in collaboration with the existing Research Development Managers, and line managed by the Director of Research Development for Arts & Sciences. They will work with academic and professional service colleagues across the University to maximise opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and to deliver training activities for academic staff that increase awareness of research funding streams and capability to apply. They will gather and analyse data to assess research performance and developing insight to support decision makers, and will contribute to the management of internal funding schemes, relevant impact schemes, and demand management processes.
This new role will be part of an expanding team of Research Development Managers supporting outstanding Research Development across the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences, reflecting its ambition and expansion. In addition to Research Development across the Faculty more broadly, this role will have particular responsibility for Research Development in its Faculty Centres (Net Zero and the Physical Sciences of Life), working collaboratively with the existing team of Research Development Managers to support outstanding, strategic research grant applications whether these are single discipline or have a multi- or inter-disciplinary focus.
