The RIBA Journal is all about design in the making - useful, practical content about architecture that is exciting to take in, unveiling things our readers can learn from those they look up to and from talents they have not yet discovered.
RIBA Journal is the UK’s largest-circulation architecture magazine. It is made up of daily articles on ribaj.com, regular newsletters and webinars, a magazine, RIBA Journal (10 x a year), and a quarterly supplement, Products in Practice.
About the Role
The role includes managing the editorial production schedule for print and online content; writing and commissioning high-quality content; managing and editing editorial newsletters; and learning lessons from analytics. We are looking for someone who knows the architectural sector and brings with them experience of managing processes.
A collaborative journalist who enjoys being part of a dynamic and creative team, who will also lead on the implementation of Search Engine Optimisation, providing monthly and annual analytics and reports analysing the performance of editorial content, including improvement and implementing knowledge sharing with other staff, as well as manage the editorial production schedule for print and online content, including resource and production freelancers.
What are we looking for?
- Outstanding editorial and writing skills.
- A subject expert in architecture and the built environment.
- Ability to deliver high-quality copy and to edit to tight copy deadlines.
- Knowledge of editorial and production processes and strong organisational skills to oversee project delivery processes.
- Skilled in SEO best practice with an ability to implement improvement strategies.
- Applies an awareness of Search Engine Optimisation in the editing and writing of copy and applying the insight of content analytics in commissioning of new content.
- A User of content management systems, analytics and social media.
- Ideally experience storytelling, scripting and editing in film and sound.
- An understanding of Intellectual Property and copyright.
- Competent in budget management.
- Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills, ability to influence, negotiate and inspire contributors, members and industry partners.
- The ability to manage and motivate freelance staff.
- A collaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally and directly with clients.
- Aptitude for working in a global, commercial publishing context, engaging with international and regional content and with emerging and established architects.
