Job description
Lancashire Constabulary's Contact Management Division is seeking a Switchboard Operator to be based at Hutton Headquarters. The site is accessible by public transport and there is also free car parking on site.
Working shifts within a busy control room covering 7 days a week including weekends and bank holidays and Christmas. You will be the first point of contact for all non-emergency calls, making an assessment of each call to determine the callers needs and direct them to the most appropriate agency or reporting tool, this could be transferring of the caller to one of the controls rooms PCRO's, officers in the Force Crime Management Unit, directing them online or providing an alternative agency to deal with their call or providing basic advice. Managing the expectations of the callers and dealing with people who require assistance and may be distressed or vulnerable. The requirement to work shifts, remain calm and professional under pressure and provide excellent customer service are essential.
The purpose of a Switchboard Operator is to be the first point of contact for members of the public who contact Lancashire Constabulary in non-emergency situations and provide a risk assessed and integrated response to all requests for assistance. You will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, following strict protocols and make decisions to Determine how the call should be dealt with and route down the correct channels.
