Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are recruiting for a safeguarding Adults and Young People lead to develop a culture of safeguarding across GMP by ensuring comprehensive, consistent, cohesive, Safeguarding provision across the force. The role will provide strategic direction, management and coordination of the designated Teams to ensure the delivery of an effective Safeguarding service. Provide support for Senior Officers and Managers in respect of all safeguarding issues and critical Incidents.
In addition, to act as the FPOC (First Point of Contact) for all internal CRH Safeguarding enquiries and referrals. The aim of this role is to positively contribute to the Safeguarding and welfare of GMPs internal staff. Ensuring action is taken to promote their welfare, protect them from harm, being accountable for decisions and taking action to have the best possible outcomes through advice and guidance on safeguarding matters to staff. The role will also include writing safeguarding policies for the organisation, in respect of internal staff and volunteers and ensuring compliance with those policies.
This role is based at GMP Police Headquarters but will involve travel across Greater Manchester and also home working where necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Relevant degree and/or professional qualification or relevant experience.
  • Experience in Safeguarding service delivery within a child and Young person environment or adults at risk.
  • Experience of financial control, budgeting procedures, procurement and ensuring value for money.
  • Proven track record of service delivery, policy development and evaluation.
  • Experience of working on own initiative, investigating problems, developing solutions and taking appropriate timely action to resolve them.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Software Applications, including MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access.
  • Experience of applying policies and procedures to working practices.
  • Experience in researching and developing policies, systems and procedures.
  • Experience of effectively planning and organising workloads for self and others to meet deadlines within a pressurised environment.
  • Experience of leading a team in order to deliver results
  • Strong working knowledge of legislation, Guidance and relevant policies and procedures in respect of the Volunteer Safe Recruitment, Safeguarding Adults and Children including managing child protection referrals and managing allegations and disclosures.

Greater Manchester Police have been informed of potential personal tax implications for members of the 1987 Police Pension Scheme, who retire and take a pension between the ages of 50 and 54 inclusive and then take up employment as a Police Staff member. Members of the police pension scheme whose age is between 50 and 54 who are re-employed as a Police Staff member have to meet certain conditions to keep their PPA and to protect against personal tax liability charges on any payments paid before the age of 55. One of those conditions is that a break of at least 1 month is required where the re-employment is ‘materially different’. However, if the role is not deemed to be ‘materially different’ then a 6 month break is required.
