Job description

Safety Officer

Due to continued expansion, Carnival UK is recruiting Safety Officers

As a market leader in the cruise line industry, we operate spectacular ships all over the world. Each time we hit the seas, there's one thing we never, ever compromise on the safety of our passengers and crew. And as Safety Officer on board, you'll make sure that it always stays that way.

As the most senior deck officer after the Deputy Captain, you will investigate all major and serious accidents and incidents, and will manage a small team of Deck Crew leading the day to day planned maintenance of safety and emergency equipment. In addition to this you will maintain oversight of the shipboard emergency response organisation and ensure all key emergency response positions are covered by suitably trained and certificated persons. As a Safety Officer you are expected to remain fully competent as a watch keeping Officer and may be required to supplement the Bridge watch and to take 'the charge' during these times.

Professional at all times and absolutely calm under pressure, you'll lead by example proactively leading the safety culture, putting health and safety at the heart of all planning and decision making.

To join us as Safety Officer, you'll need your Master Unlimited (II/2) certificate as well as experience as in rank as Safety Officer. As you'd probably expect, we're looking for someone with a good technical understanding of how cruise ships operate and sound knowledge of issues such as health and safety rules and regulations. And together with great leadership skills, you'll need strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

Experience on board a cruise ship is essential.

In return we are able to offer a structured promotion programme, providing a visible pathway for your development, attractive company benefits as well as working as part of a huge operation not only within the engine department but with the wider ships company also. It takes great passion and real dedication to maintain our position at the top. That's why people are at the heart of our journey, delivering the highest standards to our valued Guests.

So, if you're driven and determined, develop your future with a world-leading ship's company that includes the prestigious P&O Cruises and Cunard Line brands. Apply now.

As part of this growth and development we are currently in conversations with our annualised Maritime Deck and Technical fleet to agree future ways of working, including a potential reduction in working days on an annual basis. As your application progresses we will share more detail on this with you and will keep you updated on any developments once you commence employment. We look forward to taking you on this journey with us and continuing to make Carnival UK an employer of choice for the future.
