Job description

School Business Manager
• Location: Bolton
• Job Type: Full-time
• Salary Range: £19.73ph


We are seeking a School Business Manager to provide strategic leadership and management of our Academy’s financial, personnel, and support services. This role is integral to the Academy’s success, ensuring efficient financial control, contract compliance, personnel management, and the development of support systems. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), contributing to raising student achievement and the overall promotion of the School.

Day to Day of the Role:


• Lead in the strategic development of all support systems, consulting with staff and Governors, and initiating improvements.
• Participate in the SLT, resolving problems and promoting effective management and strategic leadership.
• Provide leadership and guidance for support staff, including direct line management where appropriate.
• Advise on investment and financial policy, prepare appraisals for projects, and develop a long-term financial strategy.
• Prepare annual estimates of income and expenditure, monitor accounts against budgets, and advise the SLT on financial trends.
• Manage the Academy’s accounting function, procurement processes, and insurance arrangements.
• Oversee income generation, including lease and letting arrangements.
• Manage payroll and general personnel matters, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism in recruitment and staff management.
• Oversee the maintenance of the Academy’s site and buildings, ICT, health and safety, risk management, and staff wellbeing.
• Lead a culture of continuous improvement across the Academy’s administration.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in financial management and strategic planning within an educational setting.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop support services effectively.
• Knowledge of financial regulations, procurement policies, and personnel management.
• Experience in managing payroll, personnel records, and confidential staff information.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the SLT and Governors to raise student achievement.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check or willingness to undergo this check.
