As part of the School of Education's new PGCE curriculum, based on the DfE's Market Review, we are seeking to appoint 'Lead Mentors' in the following subject areas; Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Italian and Spanish) and Religious Education.
Applications are sought from Education practitioners who have experience of managing small-scale projects, have strong subject knowledge and a good understanding of what the new curriculum will consist of; particularly how the Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) elements will contribute to student teachers' development of skills and knowledge.
The following is the role requirements for the Lead Mentors:
- Co-construction of Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) training materials, and advising on the content of the subject curriculum
- Co-construction of subject AT training materials
- Managing the ITAP, leading the training where appropriate
- Working with subject teams to deliver the subject AT training
- Working with subject teams to monitor the quality of mentoring in partner schools
- With the Lead Mentor team, monitoring student teacher progress and attendance, taking particular responsibility for successful completion of the ITAP modules
- With the Lead Mentor team, monitor the quality of training in partner schools.
The time allowance for the role is 100 hours per year and will begin officially on September 1st, although there will be some hours before September that will be paid separately for training. The role is offered on a temporary basis and will end on the 31st August 2025 in the first instance. An hourly rate of £28.18 will be paid via the de minimise route or via local school invoicing routes.
