Children and young people are at the heart of everything we do at the Borough of Royal Greenwich. With this in mind, are you an experienced Educational Practitioner who is committed to championing the education of all children and young people? RBG is seeking to appoint a SENCO Officer to work within our wonderful Virtual School and Inclusive Services. You must be able to work effectively as part of a team with a clear focus on ‘children and young people first’. Our team is dynamic, diverse and inclusive and we encourage people from all walks of life to come and join our family. The role will sit within the Virtual School and work to meet the statutory requirements of Virtual Schools to be the educational advocates and champions of children in our care.
Purpose of Job
To support the Virtual Head of School for Children in our Care (CIOC) in driving up sustained improvements in the educational progress and attainment of all children, whether placed within the borough or in other local authorities.
To improve outcomes for Children in our Care with SEND through effective support to young people; support and challenge to schools, colleges, training providers, employers and co-professionals. The support to be targeted through effective monitoring of attendance, progress, behaviour, using the information to plan interventions. Lead on providing children and young people who are not in school with appropriate resources, interventions, and educational offers.
To be the lead across the school on all SEND process and practice. To hold the lead role when working jointly with RBG SEND team and other SEND teams in all other local authorities where Children in our Care are placed.
To support with leading on SEN services within the Virtual School. For example, leading on collaborative working with EPs, outreach services, mentors. To lead on developing resources and provision available for SEN students who require additional support.
To quality assure schools in and out of borough where CIOC will be placed and offer advice and guidance to schools to meet the specific needs of CIOC. Working collaboratively with SEND teams and the school to review the needs of the child are being thoroughly met and required provision provided.
To manage the SENCO assistant and provide support and guidance across the Virtual School team staff for SEND students.
To attend as appropriate Annual Reviews and PEPs and chair PEPs when children and young people are not in school and attend other, age-appropriate education planning meetings, to support good progress at school, regularly reviewing Education Health Care Plans to ensure progress against goals.
To develop appropriate policies and procedures as well as appropriate tracking and monitoring systems for those CiOC who have SEND.
To use data as part of the monitoring and review cycle of the school to help inform action planning and resource allocation.
The Virtual School Team must be able to respond to the sudden and constantly changing needs of the young people it supports. Staff must be flexible and willing to take the nature of the service into account when carrying out the accountabilities of the post:
