We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Senior Analyst who will help to shape decisions at National Highways in making our roads safer, improving network performance and customer satisfaction. You will be playing a pivotal role in supporting the Road to Zero Harm - National Highways’ ambition to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries on the strategic road network.
You will be delivering proportionate and impactful analysis, insights and projections that supports the objectives of National Highways. You will be a great communicator with a confident working knowledge of a broad range of Operational Research and statistical techniques. You will have great inter-personal skills to enable you to work closely with a range of important internal and external stakeholders.
National Highways has adopted an informal blended working approach, with flexibility to work between your home and the office at your base location. This role can be based in either Birmingham, Exeter or Manchester, but travel will be required to attend monthly team meetings (usually in Birmingham), and attend ad-hoc meetings with other stakeholders.
What you will be leading on
- Analysis into the road safety, traffic and journey time, customer satisfaction performance of the strategic road network, producing analytically assured reports and outputs that communicate insight effectively.
- Designing high-quality analysis, models and tools that provide network intelligence, performance insight and forecasts.
- Setting and implementing consistent standards and guidance for using data, applying Operational Research techniques and statistical methods, and communicating analytical outcomes
- Providing analytical assurance and high-quality analytical advice across the organisation
- Developing the analytical capability of the team and the wider organisation
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with analysts across the organisation to champion consistent analytical approaches
To be successful
- Experience of applying a range of Operational Research analytical and statistical techniques to real world problems, to produce insight that supports decision making.
- Experience of using a range of programming languages for data analysis and modelling, such as SQL, R, Python or similar, and experience of using geoprocessing packages such as ArcMap, QGIS
- Excellent communication skills and an engaging communication style, with the ability to present with impact to a range of audiences
- Able to work collaboratively to build and maintain strong relationships
- Relevant work experience and a degree in a numerate subject containing formal training (e.g. Operational Research, statistics, mathematics, data science)
- Experience of working with road safety data is desirable.
A bit about us
Our role in the Network Analysis & Statistics group is to provide bespoke analysis and insight to support decision making across the organisation. We develop and report a number of the company’s performance metrics and play a key role in developing the Performance Specification, published within the Roads Investment Strategy. We are located within the Company’s Customer Strategy and Communication Directorate and have help build the evidence base to support future investment planning, working with our analytical colleagues within the Chief Analyst’s Division.
